Location:
Villa I Gigli is perched on a hill above a valley with breathtaking views of the rolling green hills and the town of Arezzo. The villa forms part of an agricultural estate and is therefore surrounded by forest and farmland. On site, a variety of organic products are made including wine, extra virgin olive oil and liqueurs.
Lying in the foothills of the Apennine Mountain Range, the ancient town of Arezzo spreads out across the fertile river valleys of the Arno, Tiber, Casentino, and Valdichiana. Just a 20-minute drive from the property Arezzo is a lovely medieval town with plenty of historical and cultural sites to visit and, of course, restaurants and shops. Renowned for its medieval architecture, with a spectacular old quarter, the town provided the setting for the film “Life is Beautiful”.
Shoppers will enjoy Arezzo’s goldsmiths, jewellers, and antiques. Another one of the main attractions for visitors to Arezzo is San Francesco Church, Basilica San Francesco, which houses the famous Piero della Francesca frescoes.
The villa makes a brilliant base for exploring the wider region and larger towns including Cortona, Florence, Siena and Montalcino, which are all within easy reach.

About the area
Arezzo, a hidden gem nestled in the heart of Tuscany, Italy, is a destination that offers a rich tapestry of history, art, and culture. This charming city, less frequented by the tourist crowds that flock to its more famous neighbors, provides an authentic Italian experience steeped in tradition and beauty.
The city's medieval center is a treasure trove of historical architecture, with the Piazza Grande at its heart. This sloping square is surrounded by ancient buildings and is the site of the Giostra del Saracino, a traditional jousting tournament held twice a year that harks back to the Middle Ages. Visitors can feel the pulse of history as they wander through the cobblestone streets and explore landmarks such as the Romanesque-style Arezzo Cathedral and the imposing Medici Fortress.
Art enthusiasts will be drawn to the Basilica of San Francesco, which houses the stunning fresco cycle "The Legend of the True Cross" by Renaissance master Piero della Francesca. This masterpiece of early Renaissance art is considered one of the most significant fresco sequences in the world and is a must-see for any visitor to Arezzo.
Arezzo also boasts a vibrant antiques market, the Fiera Antiquaria, which takes place on the first weekend of every month. It's one of the largest of its kind in Italy, attracting collectors and enthusiasts from across the country. The streets and squares of the old town are filled with stalls selling everything from furniture to vintage jewelry, making it a paradise for treasure hunters.
The city's culinary offerings are equally enticing, with traditional Tuscan cuisine taking center stage. Local specialties such as Chianina beef, pecorino cheese, and the renowned Tuscan wines can be savored in the many restaurants and enotecas that dot the city.
For those looking to explore beyond the city limits, Arezzo's location in the Tuscan countryside makes it an ideal base for visiting the region's vineyards, picturesque hill towns, and the stunning landscapes that have inspired artists for centuries.
In essence, Arezzo is a destination that offers a blend of historical wonders, artistic splendor, and culinary delights, all set within the breathtaking scenery of Tuscany. It's a place where travelers can step back in time, indulge their senses, and experience the very essence of Italy.
