The Rookery 3401- Down the Shore
This cute duplex home is located in ’The Rookery’ in the heart of Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge, it is only ½ mile from the beautiful quiet, white sand beaches of Baldwin County and the waters of the Gulf of Mexico. And with only a short, 15 minute drive to all the attractions, shopping, events, and restaurants in Gulf Shores this is a perfect vacation getaway or snowbird paradise.
The wildlife refuge is a 6,000 acre nature preserve that offers several easy trails through saw grass, marsh, and slash pine forest where you can encounter 500 different animals and bird species. The Fort Morgan Peninsula is in the bird and butterfly migration route. In early spring and late fall, the whole peninsula is alive with birds and butterflies including Monarchs and Gulf Fritillaries. In addition to the usual gulls and sand pipers, you may find kestrel, anhinga, osprey, great blue heron, and several different species of hawks, including sharp-shinned and Cooper’s. Bring your camera so you can take your own little bit of paradise home with you.
The home is in a quaint beach community, where island living is at its best. The Rookery offers boat and trailer parking and the Gulf Shores Yacht Club is only5 miles away where you will find a marina and boat dock. There is also a boat launch at Historic Fort Morgan six miles to the West on highway 180 where you can also catch the Mobile Bay Ferry to Dauphin Island. There are two premier golf courses nearby at Kiva Dunes and The Peninsula and there are several outlets for rental of water sports equipment nearby.
The kitchen is fully equipped with all the cookware, utensils, and dishes needed for home cooking, and there are also restaurants nearby. Linens and bedding are provided for you and the house has a new, full size clothes washer and dryer. Adequate starter supplies are also provided for your convenience.
