Known for its stunning landscapes and friendly community, Kiama is a perfect getaway for those looking to enjoy the great outdoors while still having access to charming town amenities.
The town's most famous natural attraction is the Kiama Blowhole, a natural rock formation that shoots seawater up to 20 meters into the air. This spectacular display is a testament to the power of nature and provides a unique photo opportunity for visitors. Nearby, the Little Blowhole, often less crowded, offers a more intimate experience with equally impressive water displays.
Kiama's coastline is dotted with pristine beaches, such as Surf Beach, Kendalls Beach, and Easts Beach, which are ideal for swimming, surfing, and sunbathing. The Kiama Coastal Walk, a 22-kilometer trail that stretches from Minnamurra River to Gerringong's Werri Beach, offers breathtaking views of the coastline, rolling hills, and local wildlife. It's a must-do for hikers and nature enthusiasts.
The town's history is showcased at the Kiama Lighthouse and the Pilot's Cottage Museum, where visitors can learn about the region's maritime heritage and the importance of the lighthouse to ships navigating the Illawarra coast. The Kiama Harbour, a picturesque spot, is perfect for a leisurely stroll or a picnic with views of the fishing boats and clear waters.
Kiama's weekly farmers' market is a celebration of local produce and artisanal goods, where visitors can sample and purchase fresh fruits, vegetables, cheeses, and handcrafted products. The town also hosts several events throughout the year, including the Kiama Jazz & Blues Festival, which attracts music lovers from all over.
For those interested in geology, the nearby Saddleback Mountain Lookout provides panoramic views of the region and the chance to see the Illawarra Escarpment's impressive geological formations. The Minnamurra Rainforest, a short drive from Kiama, offers a lush escape with walking tracks that meander through subtropical vegetation and past the Minnamurra Falls.
