La Capanna di Franca is an old barn which, in 2006, thanks to careful restoration work that has enhanced the original architectural style, was transformed into a warm and comfortable country house. Standing in the medieval hamlet of Palazzavelli, a tiny cluster of houses just one kilometre from the centre of Sovicille, but in an independent position, this rustic stone farmhouse is surrounded by a lush garden with a beautiful view from the windows of the first floor over the surrounding countryside against the background of Siena which is just a few kilometres away. Immersed in the natural oasis of the Montagnola Senese which is rich with the evidence of an ancient past marked by the passage of great civilizations, it is the perfect setting for fans of unspoiled nature who can explore it, directly from the property, either walking, mountain biking or horseback riding along the trails in the woods. Its geographical position makes it a perfect departure point for discovering the art masterpieces and the fine food and wine specialities in the most suggestive villages of the area, such as Montepulciano, Pienza, Montalcino and the picturesque hamlets of Chianti. The highway, a few kilometres away, leads you easily to Cortona, San Gimignano and other important Tuscan art cities such as Florence, Lucca and Pisa.
Interior:
The house has two floors. The entrance on the ground floor leads directly into a spacious, open-plan living area composed of a lounge with a large fireplace, dining area and kitchen. This floor includes a study with single sofa bed, a bathroom with shower and the laundry. A travertine and wrought-iron staircase in the living room leads up to the first floor consisting of two double bedrooms, one with ensuite bathroom with shower, a double bedroom with extra single bed and a bathroom with whirlpool tub. A flight of stairs leads up to a loft area with a super panoramic window and fitted out with gym equipment.
Air conditioning (except in a double bedroom equipped with ceiling fan).
Park:
The park around the house covers an area of about 5000 square metres, mainly lawn. From the entrance gate of the property a driveway bordered by rows of cypresses takes guests through the well-kept, blooming garden with typical plants such as cork and holm oaks, mulberry and olive trees alternating with palms and pomegranates. Bushes of rose and broom colour the many shades of green while beds of seasonal flowers border the stone path that leads to the pool. The atmosphere is quiet and reserved and entices one to spend time outdoors and to organize pleasant meals under the large porch, furnished with table and chairs, right outside the living room French window.
Please notice that photos are taken in spring, therefore flower blossoming, and the colours of the gardens’ grass could be different at the moment of your arrival at the villa.

The infinity pool is immersed in the beautiful garden just 15 m from the house. Bordered along one side by a discreet hedge, it is framed by fragrant roses and surrounded by a carpet of well-kept lawn where the sunbathing area has been set up with sunbeds, awning and a hammock. About the area
Siena, nestled in the heart of Tuscany, Italy, is a medieval city that captivates visitors with its timeless charm and rich cultural heritage. Known for its picturesque streets, stunning architecture, and vibrant local traditions, Siena is a treasure trove of history and beauty.
The city's historic center, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is dominated by the famous Piazza del Campo, one of Europe's greatest medieval squares. The piazza is renowned for hosting the Palio di Siena, a historic horse race that takes place twice a year and is an explosion of color, passion, and pageantry. The surrounding buildings, with their Gothic architecture, provide a stunning backdrop to the festivities.
At the square's edge stands the Palazzo Pubblico, Siena's town hall, which houses the Museo Civico. Here, visitors can admire some of the most important frescoes of the 14th century, including Ambrogio Lorenzetti's "Allegory of Good and Bad Government." The adjacent Torre del Mangia offers breathtaking views of the city and the Tuscan countryside for those willing to climb its 400 steps.
The Duomo di Siena, or Siena Cathedral, is another architectural marvel. This striking example of Italian Gothic architecture is adorned with intricate marble mosaics and houses an impressive collection of art, including works by Donatello, Michelangelo, and Bernini. The cathedral's Piccolomini Library, with its vibrant frescoes by Pinturicchio, is a highlight not to be missed.
Siena's narrow streets and hidden courtyards are perfect for leisurely exploration. The city's historic contrade, or districts, each with its own emblem and colors, add to the sense of community and tradition that is palpable throughout the city.
For those interested in gastronomy, Siena offers a delightful array of local specialties. Visitors can savor traditional Tuscan dishes such as pici pasta, ribollita soup, and the sweet panforte, a dense, spiced fruitcake that is a Sienese staple. The surrounding region is also famous for its Chianti wines, which can be enjoyed in the many enotecas and wine bars scattered throughout the city.
Beyond its historical and culinary offerings, Siena is also a gateway to the Tuscan countryside, with its rolling hills, vineyards, and charming hilltop towns. A short drive from the city, visitors can immerse themselves in the serene beauty of the Tuscan landscape, which has inspired artists and travelers for centuries.
In essence, Siena is a city that embodies the soul of Tuscany, offering a rich tapestry of art, history, tradition, and natural beauty that makes it an unforgettable destination for travelers from around the world.
