Rustic and Serene Cabin with Great Home Essentials, Close to Skiing

Government Camp, OR, US
4 Bedrooms 12 Guests
Aug 23 - 25
$136 night

Flying Stag - Main Lodge With an eco-friendly design, sustainable craftsmanship, mountain views, and a prime location just steps away from the slopes at SkiBowl, this Government Camp home offers a unique take on lodge living, along with all the perks you’d expect from a Mount Hood vacation rental. With two living areas, a dining hall, and four bedrooms plus a loft housing 12 guests, this is an ideal retreat for large groups looking for an unparalleled mountain experience. Once the first restaurant in Government Camp, this historic lodge has since be refurbished using locally sourced and upcycled wood to create a modernized, green environment while maintaining a traditional mountain lodge feel. Floor-to-ceiling wood panels and rustic decor reinforce the cabin-like ambiance of the home, along with the roaring gas fireplace that will keep you feeling cozy on those cold snowy nights. The open layout and multiple common areas both encourage togetherness and camaraderie among your group and allow everyone to spread out and do their own thing. And you’ll have plenty indoors to keep you entertained. While some may need to catch up on work emails (there’s WiFi throughout), the others can play a game on the Wii, or watch a movie on Netflix or the DVD player. And don’t forget CDs, there’s a stereo and CD player too! One of the most popular places to gather on vacation is naturally the kitchen. Spacious and fully stocked, this kitchen was made to handle large meals. There’s plenty of prep room along the granite countertops, a brand new stove, all the kitchen essentials you could need, and even barstools at the eat-in bar so others can keep the chefs company while they prepare their masterpiece. Don’t be too daunted by the post-meal mess - there’s a dishwasher to make clean-up easier. Serve up your meals family style in the dining hall at the elongated wooden table that serves up to 10. Four bedrooms in addition to the loft will sleep 12 vacationers comfortably. The stunning craftsmanship continues in the bedrooms with locally made beds from Cotton Cloud lined with organic linen sheets for a rejuvenating night’s rest (note that the mattresses on these custom, hand-made beds are a little firmer than most, and without a box spring). Upstairs you’ll find a bedroom with a queen bed and a second bedroom with two sets of twin bunks, along with a cozy TV room with two futons that can be used as additional sleeping arrangements. Back on the main floor lays another queen bedroom and the fourth bedroom, which holds a twin bunk bed. The lodge provides two full baths. When it’s time to head out, skiers and boarders will already be ’home’ with the slopes of SkiBowl just a short walk from the front door. Head further up the road via the Glade Trail on snowshoe or cross-country skis (or the 15 minute drive by car) to Timberline Lodge where a hot chocolate and a dose of Oregon history awaits. There’s snow tubing, terrain parks, and sleigh rides in the winter, and in the summer make sure to check out Mt. Hood Adventure Park’s zip lines, alpine slide, rock wall, mini golf, mountain bike parks and more. There are miles upon miles of trails for hikers and bikers to explore, and fisherman will find plenty of steelhead in the Sandy and Salmon rivers close by. Whether you’re a ski club, on a work retreat, gathering with extended family, or a group of friends on a ski-venture, this unique Mt. Hood vacation rental offers the perfect amount of space and privacy to accommodate your group. With a unique layout and design and a stellar location, this Mt. Hood vacation rental will be one to remember. PERMIT ID#STR-457-12 License number: STR-457-12

Vacation Rentals in Tygh Valley by Amenities & Features

Get to Know Tygh Valley

Tygh Valley, Oregon, is a hidden gem nestled in the scenic landscape of the Pacific Northwest. This tranquil valley, with its rolling hills and pastoral beauty, offers a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. It's a place where outdoor enthusiasts can indulge in a variety of activities set against the backdrop of the majestic Mt. Hood and the surrounding high desert terrain. One of the main attractions in Tygh Valley is the White River Falls State Park. This park is home to the stunning White River Falls, a powerful cascade that plunges into a striking basalt canyon. Visitors can hike down to the base of the falls for an up-close view of the thundering water and explore the remnants of a historic hydroelectric power plant that once harnessed the river's energy. For those interested in fishing and water sports, Tygh Valley is a dream come true. The Deschutes River, renowned for its excellent fly fishing, winds its way through the valley, offering opportunities to catch rainbow trout and steelhead. Pine Hollow Reservoir is another popular spot for boating, swimming, and fishing, particularly for its stocked rainbow trout and warm-water species. The valley's rich volcanic soil and favorable climate have also given rise to a burgeoning agricultural scene. Visitors can enjoy the fruits of this fertile land at local farms and orchards, where they can pick seasonal produce or sample locally-made products like honey, jams, and wines. For those with a penchant for history and culture, the Tygh Valley Heritage Trail provides a glimpse into the area's past. The trail features several historical sites, including pioneer cemeteries and Native American pictographs, telling the story of the region's early inhabitants and settlers. Tygh Valley also serves as a gateway to the Barlow Road, a historic route that was the last overland segment of the Oregon Trail. History buffs can follow in the footsteps of the early pioneers and imagine the challenges they faced while traversing the rugged landscape. With its peaceful setting, natural beauty, and wealth of recreational opportunities, Tygh Valley is a destination that offers a refreshing and authentic Oregon experience. Whether you're seeking adventure, relaxation, or a touch of history, Tygh Valley has something special to offer every traveler.
Tygh Valley, Oregon, nestled in the scenic Pacific Northwest, experiences a semi-arid climate with four distinct seasons that offer a variety of conditions for visitors throughout the year. Summer in Tygh Valley, typically from June to August, is warm and dry with temperatures often reaching into the 80s and 90s Fahrenheit during the day, while nights can cool down significantly. This is the peak season for outdoor activities such as hiking, fishing, and exploring the nearby White River Falls State Park. The low humidity during these months makes the heat more bearable, and the clear skies provide excellent conditions for stargazing. Autumn, from September to November, brings cooler temperatures and a beautiful display of fall foliage. Daytime highs range from the 70s in early September to the 50s by November. This is a great time to visit for those who prefer milder weather and fewer crowds. The harvest season also brings opportunities to enjoy local produce and seasonal events. Winter, from December to February, can be quite cold with temperatures often hovering around the freezing mark. Snowfall is possible, particularly in the higher elevations surrounding the valley, which can provide picturesque winter landscapes and opportunities for snow-based recreation. However, the valley itself tends to receive less snowfall than the mountainous regions, making it more accessible during the winter months. Spring, from March to May, sees a gradual warming with temperatures ranging from the 50s to the 70s by late May. This season can be unpredictable with a mix of rain showers and sunny days. The melting snow from the mountains can swell the rivers, making it a popular time for white-water rafting enthusiasts. The blooming wildflowers and greenery also make spring a beautiful time to explore the outdoors. The most popular weather conditions are prevalent in the summer months when the warm, dry climate is ideal for a wide range of outdoor activities. However, for those seeking a quieter visit with pleasant weather, late spring and early autumn offer comfortable temperatures and the natural beauty of the changing seasons. For the best balance of good weather and outdoor accessibility, consider visiting Tygh Valley in late spring or early autumn. These times offer the chance to experience the valley's natural beauty with fewer crowds and enjoyable temperatures.
Tygh Valley, Oregon, may not be the first place that comes to mind when thinking of a cultural hotspot, but this serene valley in the heart of the Pacific Northwest offers a unique blend of natural beauty and local customs that can provide a refreshing cultural experience for those willing to explore off the beaten path. While Tygh Valley doesn't boast the extensive museums or galleries of a large metropolis, it does offer a glimpse into the rich tapestry of Oregon's history and the cultural heritage of the Wasco and Warm Springs tribes. The region's history can be explored through its landscape, from the Native American pictographs at the nearby Columbia Hills State Park to the historic Barlow Road, a segment of the Oregon Trail. For those interested in the arts, the local community often hosts events that showcase regional talent, including live music performances.
