Jump in one of the two row-boats and enjoy fishing on this all sports lake. Love the winter? Enjoy hopping on the maintained country road and cruise on over to a local snowmobile trail! Wheeler Lake House consists of 2 buildings: the main house and a bunk house. The main house hosts 2 bedrooms, living room, bathroom and deck. Of course, there is also a fully-equipped kitchen that is perfect for whipping up a meal, or if you prefer, take the food outside and relax while grilling on a propane grill. At night, enjoy looking at the stars while you sit around the campfire. The detached bunk house is equipped with a 40” flat screen Smart TV, couch, and Double-Twin bunk bed (sleeps 3). This space is great for kids or teens. There is not a bathroom in the bunk house. Animals: You may see deer, swans, geese, ducks, squirrel, turkey, and possibly bear. Bathroom: There is a full bathroom with tub and shower in the Main house. Beach/Swimming: The layout goes as such: grass—3 feet of sand—water. The lake bottom is soft sand. Water shoes are optional. There is no public launch on Wheeler Lake. You are able to jump off dock into water to swim. (Memorial Day thru Labor Day) Fireplace: There is not a fireplace in this home. Fire-pit: Yes! Bring your s’mores. Fishing: Some common fish you will see in the lake are bass, pike, bluegill, perch, catfish, and sunfish. There are also lots of turtles, so be aware! Please be sure to bring your own poles as there are none provided at this property. Also, in order to fish in Michigan lakes, one is required to hold a fishing license. You can get your fishing license on the Michigan DNR Website. Grill: On the deck you will find a propane grill. Propane is provided. There are bars in the bathroom for guest support however, the hallways are not up to official handicap standards and do not come equipped with special apparatus to help those in need. Internet: Yes, there is WiFi at the property Linens: Yes, we provide your sheets and linens. Just like a hotel, the beds will be made for you upon arrival. If you are fussy about the thread count of your sheets, just let us know, and we’ll make sure we leave a bed open for your sheets. We have just the basic sheets, pillows, pillow cases and bath towels. Parking: You can park 2-4 cars or 2 truck/trailer combos Pets: We are sorry, pets are not allowed at this property. Privacy: Neighbors directly on either side of the cottage. There are only 8 homes on the lake. Seniors: Come one, come all! This space is great for those over 60. Sometimes when renting a home, you are never too sure about the terrain: is the home on top of a hill?, is parking on a steep slope?, are there 100 steps to the beach or the unit?, etc. This home gets the FVR approval for the young at heart! Smoking: No smoking of any kind is allowed on the property. Due to the close proximity of the neighbors, it is strictly prohibited. Snowmobiles: Yes, you can ride right from the house. The trail begins at the first bend in the road from the house (less than half a mile from the property). You will need to ride the power line to Mancelona to get to the main trail. A person (resident and nonresident) that operates a snowmobile in Michigan is required to purchase a snowmobile trail permit. The trail permit enables snowmobilers to ride state-designated trails and thousands more miles of public roads and on public lands (where authorized). It is valid for one year, which begins Oct. 1 and ends Sept. 30 of the following year. State-designated trails are open Dec. 1-March 31 and grooming occurs when there is enough snow on the ground. Space: There are 2 buildings: The Main lake house and the Bunk house. Televisions: There is a 40” TV in the bunk house and a 43” flat in main home. Both televisions are Smart TVs. You can sign in to your Netflix or Hulu account and enjoy your favorite shows and movies. There is no cable or satellite TV, but there are 14 local channels in both the bunk house and in the main home. Towels: Yes, we provide towels. It’s always good to bring extra though. We do not provide beach towels. Washer and dryer: There is a washer & dryer located in the bedroom closet Water: There is well, and while safe to drink, for some people there is an off-putting smell. The cabin is only a short walk to swimming, fishing, and boating on Manistee Lake. The lake is relatively shallow (around 20 feet at its deepest point) making it especially great for small kids and those who want to wade in the water. The cabin is partially secluded, having only neighbors on one side and woods surrounding. Enjoy the amazing view through the large picture wall. In addition, the kaleidoscope of wood colors inside the home and knotty-pine walls makes this cabin a great find for small families, couples, or small groups of friends. Although there is more privacy than in many cottage areas, this is not a place for events or loud groups. We adhere to a good neighbor policy both at the home and at the swimming area. Appreciate the fully equipped kitchen, living room, master bedroom and bathroom on the main floor. The picture wall will lead you outside to a 8’ x 20’ patio area equipped with a grill, chairs and a table. Grab a kayak or two, which are provided for you during your stay, and head out to the center of lake to fish! Bedroom Configuration: Bedroom #1: main floor – Queen bed Bedroom #2: upper loft area – 2 Twin beds which can be converted into a King Boats: 2 adult and 2 youth kayaks are included in your stay; Available to use from Memorial Day to Labor Day. When launching the kayaks, the closest option is just a 5 minute walk toward Manistee Lake, one block from the cabin. Here there is an easement to the lake, shared with their neighbors. You will need to walk on the grass, between 2 other homes. There is no sandy beach area on this side of the lake. For your own boat, there is a public boat launch at Sands Park (2.8 miles, on southwestern side of lake.) You are welcome to park your boat/trailer at the cabin. Cable/Satellite TVs: Smart TV with local channels. Cell phone service: Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile are good, all others are up for debate. Kalkaska Getaway is perfect for quiet groups looking to vacation, ideally for 6 people to enjoy Enjoy the kayaks, along with a simple aluminum fishing boat which are provided for your summer-time water fun. This home is perfect for fishing families and explorers alike. Bring your ORV’s or Snowmobiles and ride from the front door! With plenty of parking, Kalkaska Getaway allows for truck/trailer combos and multiple cars to park on-site. So, grab your buddies or the kids and fish, swim, or ride until dawn! Kalkaska Getaway is a 3-level home: Main floor (with GE kitchen appliances), upstairs bedrooms and a walk-out basement that is geared for fun with a shuffleboard table, foosball table and air hockey table for your enjoyment! Although you can barely see the lake in the summertime from this property, you are only a 150 yard walk to the water, where you can swim, lounge around, or launch a kayak. Manistee Lake is a shallow lake, and from the shore has a gradual slope so it is great for smaller kids (max depth is 16 feet). Kalkaska Getaway is located on the northeast corner of the lake. If you would like to take a short 5 minute drive to Manistee Lake Sands Park, you will find a playground, public beach, picnic area, and public boat launch. THIS COTTAGE HAS OUTSIDE VIDEO SECURITY MONITORING. As an extra layer of security, we do have outside cameras mounted on the cottage. There are no cameras inside the cottage. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS A/C: No. Each bedroom has a ceiling fan and the dining room has a ceiling fan. There are also a few oscillating floor fans which can be used throughout the home. Animals: Variety of birds, squirrels, turkey, coyotes, fox, deer and bear. ATV/Snowmobiles: Yes. You can drive from the front door to nearby trails. Leetsville Trail is the closest. Here is a map of ORV trails nearby. Bathrooms: Bathroom #1: main floor Full-bath with tub and shower Bathroom #2: upstairs Half-bath Bathroom #3: walk-out basement shower stall, sink, toilet; connected washer/dryer Beach/Swimming: Only 150 yards away is the access to the lake. It is shared access with 6 other homes. There is about a 12 x 4 ft. patch of sand in which kids can play. Manistee Lake is a sandy-bottom lake, very shallow with a gradual slope. The average person can walk out about 75 yards with the water only reaching your neck. The public beach and playground is on the southwest side of Manistee Lake. Bedroom Configuration: Bedroom #1: main floor: Queen Bedroom #2: upstairs: 3 Queens and a crib Bedroom #3: upstairs: 1 Queen and a full over full bunk bed Boats: (ONLY AVAILABLE Memorial day - labor day) 5 Kayaks with paddles with a variety of Adult-size life jackets. There is also a canoe trailer that can be attached to your own vehicle if you want to explore the Manistee River. In addition, guests can use the 12’ aluminum rowboat with oars on any nearby lake. There is a trailer for the that boat as well, if you want to hook it up to your own car and explore. You can attach your own motor (up to 6 horse) if you would like to use the 12’ aluminum boat for easier fishing. Guests - simply walk a kayak or the boat 150 yards away and jump on in. Boat Launch: Public launch, Manistee Lake Sands Park, southwest end of lake. You will need to pull boat in/out, however, you can park your truck/trailer combo right in front of the house. (You can always pick up your family at the dock 150 yards away, but please, do not tie up there! This is private shared dock and is typically pulled out Labor Day Weekend.) Bugs: Typical flies, mosquitoes, spiders, and ants. Cable/Satellite TVs: No cable. 1 Samsung Smart TV on the main floor. Next TV is in walk-out basement and has the Chromecast and a DVD.
