GREAT for BOATING! **We ask that our guests be respectful of our great neighbors by keeping quiet hours between 11:00 pm and 9:00 am. It is just so nice to walk out on the back porch and see the beautiful Manistee River gently flowing around the bend. The Lodge on the Manistee is a peaceful place to enjoy a family gathering or a gathering of fly-fisherman casting their poles off the dock. Adventure seekers, feel free to bring your kayaks or canoes in order to paddle up the river. This 4-bedroom home sleeps 8 people comfortably. The common spaces for gathering are ideal for a large family or two families vacationing together. The fully equipped kitchen will suit your needs and the extended covered porch on the river-side of the home is a pleasant setting for a morning cup of coffee or an evening glass of wine. THIS COTTAGE HAS OUTSIDE VIDEO SECURITY MONITORING. As an extra layer of security, we do have outside cameras mounted on the cottage. There are no cameras inside the cottage. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Air Conditioning: Geo-thermal (a fabulous central cooling system) ATV’s: They are welcomed. Animals: There are definitely bear in the area, deer, squirrels, muskrat, eagles, and bunnies. Bathroom: Bathroom #1: Attached to main bedroom FULL BATH with jetted tub and shower. Bathroom #2: Main floor---HALF BATH with shower only. Beach/Swimming: You can swim in the river. There is a ladder and a dock area. The river is flowing, and at times, the current can be swift (not white water rapids, but swift). Not recommended for little children/weak swimmers. Bedroom Configuration: Bedroom #1: Master Bedroom --Queen Bedroom #2: main floor --Queen Bedroom #3: upstairs—Full Bedroom #4: upstairs--Queen Boats: No boats are available. You are able to bring you own kayaks or canoes (20 steps to get down to river). Pull kayaks up along shore or on the wooden dock. The river is EXCELLENT FOR BOATING down. Bugs: Typical Michigan bugs! Dock: There is a dock there, but it is usually only used for fly-fishing and swimming. Fireplace: Wood-burning stove available for guests to use. You must bring your own wood. Fire-pit: Yes. There is a fire pit. Fishing: THIS IS A FLY-FISHING ONLY SECTION. This section of the Manistee is known for an excellent trout fishing. Please be sure to bring your own poles as there are none at this property. Also, in order to fish in Michigan lakes and rivers, one is required to hold a fishing license. Click here to purchase your fishing license online. Garage: We apologize, yet although you are parking in front of the garage, it is not for us by guests. Grill: Gas grill (and spare propane tank) is in the garage. We ask that it be used on the driveway area and returned to the garage each night. Bears, Coyotes, and Foxes are active in the neighborhood and love to get their paws on greasy grills. Grocery Store: 5 miles into Grayling Internet: YES! Linens: Yes, we provide your sheets and linens. Just like a hotel, the beds will be made for you upon arrival. If you are fussy about the thread count of your sheets, just let me know, and I’ll make sure we leave a bed open for your sheets. We have just the basic sheets, pillows, pillow cases and bath towels. Parking: Easily 3 cars or a truck/trailer combo. Pets: Pets are not welcome at this home. Privacy: There are houses on both side of the home. Neighbors are about 50ft. away. Space: 2-floors. Main with 2 bedrooms and Upper with a loft and 2 bedrooms. Televisions: There is a smart TV in family room with streaming capabilities Towels: Yes, we provide towels. It’s always good to bring extra though. Washer and dryer: YES. Soap is provided. Wood: Guests need to bring their own wood for fire pit and wood-burning stove.

Privacy: There are neighbors within view. The east & south property line is fenced in Snowmobiles: You can snowmobile right from the property to the trail head on 104 (W Pine Dr). A person (resident and nonresident) that operates a snowmobile in Michigan is required to purchase a snowmobile trail permit. The lake is relatively shallow (around 20 feet at its deepest point) making it especially great for small kids and those who want to wade in the water. The cabin is partially secluded, having only neighbors on one side and woods surrounding. Enjoy the amazing view through the large picture wall. In addition, the kaleidoscope of wood colors inside the home and knotty-pine walls makes this cabin a great find for small families, couples, or small groups of friends. Although there is more privacy than in many cottage areas, this is not a place for events or loud groups. We adhere to a good neighbor policy both at the home and at the swimming area. Appreciate the fully equipped kitchen, living room, master bedroom and bathroom on the main floor. The picture wall will lead you outside to a 8’ x 20’ patio area equipped with a grill, chairs and a table. Grab a kayak or two, which are provided for you during your stay, and head out to the center of lake to fish! If you would like to take a short 5 minute drive to Manistee Lake Sands Park, you will find a playground, public beach, picnic area, and public boat launch. THIS COTTAGE HAS OUTSIDE VIDEO SECURITY MONITORING. As an extra layer of security, we do have outside cameras mounted on the cottage. There are no cameras inside the cottage. Only 8 homes rest on this private lake so guests are able to take in the woodlands, see the resident swans and loons, and enjoy the stillness of the lake. Jump in one of the two row-boats and enjoy fishing on this all sports lake. Love the winter? Enjoy hopping on the maintained country road and cruise on over to a local snowmobile trail! Wheeler Lake House consists of 2 buildings: the main house and a bunk house. The main house hosts 2 bedrooms, living room, bathroom and deck. Of course, there is also a fully-equipped kitchen that is perfect for whipping up a meal, or if you prefer, take the food outside and relax while grilling on a propane grill. At night, enjoy looking at the stars while you sit around the campfire. The detached bunk house is equipped with a 40” flat screen Smart TV, couch, and Double-Twin bunk bed (sleeps 3). This space is great for kids or teens. There is not a bathroom in the bunk house. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Air Conditioning: The Main house and Bunk house have air conditioning and both bedrooms have ceiling fans. ATV’s: Yes, please feel free to bring the trailer! Animals: You may see deer, swans, geese, ducks, squirrel, turkey, and possibly bear. Bathroom: There is a full bathroom with tub and shower in the Main house. Beach/Swimming: The layout goes as such: grass—3 feet of sand—water. The lake bottom is soft sand. Water shoes are optional. Bedroom Configuration: Bedroom #1: Master bedroom has Queen bed Bedroom #2: Queen bed Bedroom #3: Bunk-House 12x16 (detached from rest of house) Double - Twin Bunk Boats: NEWLY ADDED - 2 Kayaks! There is no public launch on Wheeler Lake. You are able to jump off dock into water to swim. (Memorial Day thru Labor Day) Fireplace: There is not a fireplace in this home. Fire-pit: Yes! Bring your s’mores. Fishing: Some common fish you will see in the lake are bass, pike, bluegill, perch, catfish, and sunfish. There are also lots of turtles, so be aware! Please be sure to bring your own poles as there are none provided at this property. Also, in order to fish in Michigan lakes, one is required to hold a fishing license. You can get your fishing license on the Michigan DNR Website. Grill: On the deck you will find a propane grill. Propane is provided. There are bars in the bathroom for guest support however, the hallways are not up to official handicap standards and do not come equipped with special apparatus to help those in need. Internet: Yes, there is WiFi at the property Linens: Yes, we provide your sheets and linens. Just like a hotel, the beds will be made for you upon arrival. If you are fussy about the thread count of your sheets, just let us know, and we’ll make sure we leave a bed open for your sheets. We have just the basic sheets, pillows, pillow cases and bath towels. Parking: You can park 2-4 cars or 2 truck/trailer combos Pets: We are sorry, pets are not allowed at this property. Privacy: Neighbors directly on either side of the cottage. There are only 8 homes on the lake. Seniors: Come one, come all! This space is great for those over 60. Sometimes when renting a home, you are never too sure about the terrain: is the home on top of a hill?, is parking on a steep slope?, are there 100 steps to the beach or the unit?, etc. This home gets the FVR approval for the young at heart! Smoking: No smoking of any kind is allowed on the property. Due to the close proximity of the neighbors, it is strictly prohibited. Snowmobiles: Yes, you can ride right from the house. The trail begins at the first bend in the road from the house (less than half a mile from the property). You will need to ride the power line to Mancelona to get to the main trail. A person (resident and nonresident) that operates a snowmobile in Michigan is required to purchase a snowmobile trail permit. The trail permit enables snowmobilers to ride state-designated trails and thousands more miles of public roads and on public lands (where authorized). It is valid for one year, which begins Oct. 1 and ends Sept. 30 of the following year. State-designated trails are open Dec. 1-March 31 and grooming occurs when there is enough snow on the ground. Space: There are 2 buildings: The Main lake house and the Bunk house. Televisions: There is a 40” TV in the bunk house and a 43” flat in main home. Both televisions are Smart TVs. You can sign in to your Netflix or Hulu account and enjoy your favorite shows and movies. There is no cable or satellite TV, but there are 14 local channels in both the bunk house and in the main home. Towels: Yes, we provide towels. It’s always good to bring extra though. We do not provide beach towels. Washer and dryer: There is a washer & dryer located in the bedroom closet Water: There is well, and while safe to drink, for some people there is an off-putting smell. Winter Activities: * Cross-Country Skiing & Snowshoeing (20-25 minutes): Enjoy trails in the Huron National Forest and surrounding areas. * Ice Fishing (10-20 minutes): Ice fish on nearby lakes like Thunder Bay River and Lake Huron. * Winter Hiking (15-20 minutes): Hike the snowy trails in Huron National Forest.
