Tucked into 43 forested acres in the Sierra Nevada foothills, it’s a place for quiet mornings, afternoons on the trails, and evenings spent together. Explore Yosemite, soak in the hot tub beneath the pines, gather on the deck for dinner, or enjoy being surrounded by nature.

The main living spaces are all on one level, which makes the house feel connected and easy to settle into.
There are three bedrooms with king beds, three full bathrooms, and an extra half bath off the living room. The separate TV room has a large sofa that can sleep two more when needed.
The living room is where people naturally gather, with a large sectional and a stone fireplace for slow mornings and relaxed evenings. There’s also a separate TV room with an 86" screen for movie nights, plus board games for kids and adults.
The kitchen opens into the living area, so meals and conversation happen in the same space. It’s well equipped for cooking and baking, whether you’re making a quick breakfast before Yosemite, packing food for the day, or settling in for a longer dinner back at the house.
The main bedroom has its own fireplace and is surrounded by large windows and skylights that keep the forest close. There are no window coverings in this room by design, since there’s nothing outside but trees and sky. The other two bedrooms have blackout window coverings for anyone who prefers to sleep in.
Outside, the deck has a large dining table, a gas BBQ, a wood-fired stone BBQ, and extra patio seating for coffee, a drink, or time together outdoors. There are also two fire tables that add warmth and make it easy to stay outside later into the evening. The hot tub sits beneath the trees and is ready when you want to slow down after a day in the park.
Beyond the house, the property opens up around you with private trails, a seasonal pond, a fire pit, shuffleboard, a playground, and forest in every direction. Deer and wild turkeys are common here, and the setting stays quiet and private.

There is another house on the same property, Lovers Nest, also part of Casa Oso. It is rented separately, so each home has its own privacy and independence.
The access road and layout naturally keep the homes far apart. The grounds are shared, but each home feels quiet and independent.
Larger groups sometimes reserve both homes together while still having room to spread out.
We’ve set everything up ahead of time, so you can check in and settle in on your own.
Guests will have access to the entire home and the surrounding private property during their stay.

This home is located on 43 private acres in Mariposa, California in the heart of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. While most mountain properties are located on a steep hill, all 43 acres are accessible, with over 2 miles of hiking trails for guests. The location offers incredible privacy while still being close to all that Yosemite has to offer.
Mariposa (15 minutes) and the nearby town of Oakhurst (25 minutes) were both settled during the Gold Rush and delight guests with their Wild West roots, diverse dining options, and unique attractions, like a mineralogy museum, a steam train ride, and historical villages. In this area, it’s easy to do tons of outdoor activities like skiing, tubing, water sports, sky diving, canoeing, horseback riding, climbing, and off-road excursions.
The biggest draw to this area is, of course, Yosemite National Park. The South Gate Entrance in Fish Camp is a 45-minute drive from the house and the Yosemite Entrance located in El Portal takes about an hour, although travel times do get longer during weekend rush hours and holidays.
Yosemite is world-renowned for its incredible natural beauty. Within its roughly 1,200 square miles, you’ll find deep valleys, picturesque meadows, giant sequoias, countless waterfalls, expansive wilderness, and miles of scenic hiking trails. There are endless opportunities for adventure, whether it’s hiking, biking, fishing, birdwatching, horseback riding, rock climbing (El Capitan is the biggest rock monolith in the world), stargazing, swimming, boating, skiing, snowshoeing, or scenic drives. It’s a beautiful place to visit year-round, and every season brings a different experience.
In Yosemite and the surrounding area, you’ll have opportunities to view plenty of wildlife, including deer, turkeys, squirrels, hawks, and rabbits. You may even see a coyote, bear, mountain lion, raccoon, opossum, skunk, rattlesnake, tarantula, or scorpion! And be mindful of the poison oak and poison ivy that are part of the natural surroundings.
Our location is also convenient to beautiful Bass Lake, a recreational area known for excellent fishing, hiking, wakeboarding, and watersports. Bass Lake is about 30 minutes from the house.
If you want to gather with family and friends surrounded by nature, there’s no better place to be.
Guests will need a vehicle for their stay. The closest airport is Fresno Yosemite International Airport (FAT ~1 hour 20 min away). There is no local taxi company or car service available in the area.
Yosemite National Park South Gate Entrance in Fish Camp is about a 1-hour drive from Stone House. The Yosemite Entrance in El Portal, where Yosemite Valley is located, is also about a 1-hour drive. Travel times can be longer during weekend rush hours and holidays, so we recommend planning accordingly.
Lovers Nest is located in a secluded area and the property is not fully fenced. Being surrounded by Yosemite means sharing the area with the local wildlife and nature that comes with it. Animals that may be seen around the property include deer, turkeys, squirrels, hawks, and rabbits. Less commonly seen, but living in the area, are coyotes, bears, mountain lions, raccoons, opossums, skunks, rattlesnakes, tarantulas, and scorpions. Local plants also include poison oak and poison ivy.
Wildfires are a natural part of California, including the Sierra Nevada region. Some species, including sequoias, rely on fire as part of their natural life cycle. Wildfire season is most common between June and November.
