Road and Other Noise: Erinleigh by the Sea is located directly next to and below the Hwy 1. Traffic is busiest on fair weather weekends and tends to quiet in the evenings. Not as much of the traffic noise carries to the house as it is situated below the road and there are new windows, but sound carries across the water, and you’ll hear life music from Café Aquatica and folks paddling the estuary during the day. Wildlife and waves can be noisy too! Road to Erinleigh by the Sea: No matter how you get here, the last part of your journey is along Hwy 1 which is twisty and turny in sections. With drivers in a hurry and taking their time. Please be cautious when pulling onto and off the road. Rural Setting and Critters: We live in a rural area with ants, spiders, rodents, and larger critters from raccoons and mountain lions to bears. While we make the best effort to protect against them from coming into homes, we also do not use poison where it can harm wildlife, pets, and children. And keeping all critters out is simply not possible. We appreciate your help in putting tasty smelling items into refrigerators, proper disposal of trash, and understanding that ants (especially) come in without warning and may not have been present at the time of cleaning. Cell Phones: Please be aware that many cell phones will not have service at this location. There is wifi. Stairs: While the living areas in the house are all one level, there is a flight of stairs from the parking area to the front door. Please look at the photos if stairs are a concern. Pet Policy: No Pets. Service animals are always accommodated under the ADA. Fencing: The area between the house and Hwy 1 is fenced with a locking gate. The rest of the property is not fenced. We call this the “River Yard.” This yard is highly sensitive to changes in river/weather conditions – especially in winter when the river comes up and areas remain soggy or submerged. Docks, Boats, and River Access: There are 3 single kayaks and 1 double kayak when available, and stairs to the river dock from the river yard. These are seasonal amenities and only available when conditions allow. Expect docks, boats, and river access when the summer dams are in (mid-June to mid- September). Conditions vary from year to year and can change rapidly – use your best judgement to determine your risk level and comfort in the water/physical activity. The dock is at the river year-round but goes under water when the summer dams are out and conditions start to change for fall/winter. And keeping all critters out is simply not possible. We appreciate your understanding that ants (especially) come in without warning and may not have been present at the time of cleaning. Cell Phones: Some cell phones do not have service in this area. There is a physical phone and you can set cell phones to wifi calling. Stairs: An interior staircase connects the upper and lower levels of the house. Outside, there are approx. 60 stairs (including some uneven pavers) from the back deck to the river access. Driving Distances: Proximity to wineries: There is a wine bar in downtown Guerneville, Korbel Winery is 4.3 miles, and oodles more within a short drive. Nearest River Beach: Seasonally, directly behind the house – down the stairs, follow the path, and on to the river. For a year-round neighborhood beach, you can walk approx. a third of a mile. Johnson’s Beach is the closest commercial river beach, a short 1.6-mile drive, and all around fabulous place to enjoy the river, rent boats, inner tubes, beach umbrellas, and grab a beer and bite to eat - when they are open for the season. Otherwise, you can wander the beach, but the boats and concession stand will not be available. Dogs are not allowed at Johnson’s Beach when they are open for the season. Nearest Ocean Beach: There are many ocean beaches along the Sonoma coast, but one of the closest is Goat Rock State Beach just south of Jenner – 15 miles from the house. One of the beaches at Goat Rock is dog friendly. Distance to Downtown Guerneville: 1.7 mi by car, 1.6 if you use the historic walking bridge. Northwood Golf Course: 4.9 miles River Electric: A very hip camp and swim club with bar, small bites, and events is 1.2 miles – an easy walk for access to multiple pools and stylish lounging.
