Carol & Mike’s Beach House - Ocean-View Hot Tub Retreat Near Portuguese Beach

Bodega Bay, CA, US
2 Bedrooms 4 Guests
Aug 24 - 27
$315 night

Sink into the hot tub beneath cypress trees as the sun melts into the Pacific, a few blocks inland from Portuguese Beach. This J. Carson Bowler-designed home frames coastal meadow and open ocean through walls of glass, with two king en-suite bedrooms sleeping 4. Bodega Bay’s harbor and seafood shacks sit under five miles south; Jenner and the Russian River, seven miles north. Spend mornings watching fog burn off the coastal meadow from the balcony, afternoons walking the few blocks to Portuguese Beach for golden sand, rocky headlands, and surf fishing, and evenings around the fire table on the sheltered deck with fresh crab from Spud Point. Bodega Bay’s working harbor sits less than five miles south; Jenner and the mouth of the Russian River, seven miles north. Settle into the open top floor where walls of glass pull the meadow and ocean into the room, and the gas fireplace anchors board-game nights when the marine layer rolls in. Designed by noted Sea Ranch architect (and Bodega Bay resident) J. Carson Bowler, the home was renovated with energy efficiency and modern tech in mind while holding to the Sea Ranch ethos of good design and harmony with the land. Cook at the light-filled kitchen with stainless steel appliances and an induction cooktop (compatible pots supplied), then gather at the dining table where the views do half the entertaining. Slide downstairs to the den for a smart TV, a leather sofa, and a classic Malm Fire Drum gas fireplace -- plus a dedicated home office with an Apple monitor and USB-C jack if a workday slips in. Pull out the portable Bose Bluetooth speaker and let music follow you room to room. OUTDOOR LIVING Sink into the private hot tub sheltered by cypress with sweeping ocean views, then move to the upper deck for dinner behind the wind screens or the lower patio’s rocking chairs at the meadow’s edge. Fire up the gas grill for coastal cookouts, gather around the fire table as stars come out, and rinse off in the outdoor shower after a beach day. Beach chairs and towels are stocked and ready. SLEEPING ARRANGEMENTS Two king suites, each with its own en-suite bath: - Bedroom 1: King bed, en-suite bath - Bedroom 2: King bed, en-suite bath Total capacity: 4 guests. PROPERTY AMENITIES - Private hot tub with ocean views - Two gas fireplaces (main level and den) - Gas grill and fire table on the deck - Induction kitchen with stainless steel appliances - Washer/dryer, outdoor shower, and beach gear provided - EV charger on-site (240V, 48-amp Clipper Creek J Plug, ~46 mi/hr) Sink into the private hot tub and let the Pacific open out beyond the deck — when the fog rolls in, the gas fireplace warms the great room behind you. The whole two-story home is yours, with a gourmet kitchen and an ocean-view balcony off the main floor. Grab the key from the lockbox out front, and pull up to two cars in the driveway. Bodega Bay is about 90 minutes from San Francisco — a beautiful drive up 101 and out Highway 1 through farmland and coastal ranches. You’ll have two dedicated parking spaces: one in the garage (sedan-height vehicles only) and ample room in the driveway for any vehicle. A car makes exploring the Sonoma Coast effortless — it unfolds for miles in either direction. Cell service is light along the coast, so downloading offline maps before you arrive is a good idea. The home’s modern tech includes a hardwired EV charger in the garage (240-volt, 48-amp Clipper Creek) that adds 46 miles of range per hour — perfect for Tesla road trips. No air conditioning needed — ocean breezes keep the home naturally comfortable, though heat pumps provide climate control when desired. The second fireplace in the den is now fully operational for cozy evenings. Beach chairs and towels await in the closet, and an outdoor shower helps rinse off sand. The home office features an Apple monitor with USB-C connection for remote work with a view. Solar panels charge a battery backup system, so essential functions continue even during rare power outages. SLEEPING ARRANGEMENTS Four bedrooms sleep up to eight across three full baths: - Bedroom 1: King bed - Bedroom 2: King bed - Bedroom 3: Queen bed - Bedroom 4: Queen bed PROPERTY AMENITIES - Private hot tub on the deck - Gas fireplace in the living room - Gas grill for outdoor cooking - Dog-friendly with enclosed yard - In-unit washer and dryer A heads-up for the drive in: Russian River area roads are narrow and windy, and the home sits on a hillside with stairs — worth knowing before you book. Quiet hours 10 p.m. to 7 a.m.; max occupancy eight. Climb up to a wall of windows on the upper level — treehouse-feel, towering evergreens, and a stone fireplace under exposed beams — then drift out to the private hot tub on the deck. You’ve got the whole home, dogs welcome, with an enclosed yard, outdoor dining, and a BBQ. Punch in the keypad code on arrival; up to six cars fit on-site (the garage stays closed). Cazadero is about an hour and 45 minutes from San Francisco via 101 and River Road — a scenic drive into a quiet redwood canyon. You’ll have parking for up to 6 vehicles in the driveway. A car makes the Russian River Valley and Sonoma Coast easy to explore, from redwood groves to coastal bluffs. Cell service gets patchy in the redwoods, so downloading offline maps before you arrive is worth it. While there’s no air conditioning, the home stays naturally cool thanks to the redwood canopy and mountain elevation — ceiling fans in bedrooms provide additional comfort. Your two dogs are welcome! Please follow these guidelines: never leave pets unattended, keep them off furniture, use a mat under water bowls, wipe paws when entering, and always clean up waste while keeping pets out of garden beds. The smart lock makes arrival easy, but cell service is spotty so save your access code before arriving. The vegetable garden is established and thriving — feel free to harvest any ripe produce during your stay! Internet is available, though many guests embrace the digital detox that Cazadero naturally provides. The fire pit is decorative only. The primary renter must be 21 or older. Cozy Riverfront Cabin with Dock, Fire Pit & Dogs OK

Monte Rio, CA, US
2 Bedrooms 5 Guests
Aug 18 - 20
$448 night

Unwind at The River’s Edge, a 2-bedroom, 1-bath riverside cabin surrounded by nature. Relax on the deck with river views, enjoy the fire pit, or step onto the private dock (May–Sept) that puts you right on top of the river—an ideal launchpad for the kayak, canoe, and paddleboard. Perfect for a peaceful getaway, this cozy cabin is just minutes from Guerneville, Duncans Mills, local wineries, and the Pacific Coast. Escape to River’s Edge, a secluded riverfront sanctuary where the forest meets the water. Tucked away in the Russian River Valley, this retreat offers the perfect mix of classic cabin charm and modern luxury. Whether you’re here to soak in the hot tub under the redwoods, craft pizzas in the outdoor oven, or simply unplug by the fire, this is your private basecamp for relaxation and connection. As you step inside, you’ll find a home that balances the historic feel of a lodge with the freshness of a modern remodel. The living room is defined by character—planked walls, heavy ceiling beams, and a classic brick fireplace—but it feels playful rather than dark. We’ve curated a "rustic whimsy" aesthetic, filled with interesting art and unique findings that spark conversation and make the space feel personal. The heart of the home is the sun-drenched kitchen. Skylights flood the room with natural light, illuminating the clean white cabinetry and the central island (a perfect spot to perch with a glass of wine). The dining area is wrapped in glass, offering uninterrupted views of the forest canopy. Mornings here are the best part of the day—brew a fresh cup (Keurig and drip provided) and watch the mist rise off the water through the windows. We believe vacation is about actually resting. The two bedrooms are painted a soft, cheerful yellow to catch the natural light. They are simple, uncluttered, and designed for comfort, featuring queen-sized beds with proper bedside tables and reading lamps. There is plenty of room to unpack, settle in, and leave your suitcase in the corner. The bathroom features cool tile floors, a shower, and an extra-long mirror that makes getting ready easy for two people. We provide plenty of freshly laundered towels, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and hand soap, along with a kit of emergency essentials so you have everything you need the moment you arrive. The outdoor living space is designed for making memories. We’ve turned the deck into a theater for river life, where the architecture literally makes space for nature. The expansive deck was custom-built to accommodate the redwoods, "kissing" the bark and allowing the trees to burst right through the floorboards. You can step out of the hot tub and be within arm’s length of a tree that has stood here for generations. Fire up the brick pizza oven and BBQ for an al fresco dinner, or settle into the outdoor chairs around the fire pit, surrounded by landscaped ferns and native grasses. From the hot tub, you are perched up above the river with a view of the water below. It’s the perfect vantage point to watch summer floaters drifting by in the distance, or simply listen to the wind in the trees. During the warmer months (Memorial Day weekend through Columbus / Indigenous Peoples’ Day weekend), guests can enjoy access to the seasonal dock and kayaks. Whether you are planning a quiet couples’ retreat, a family getaway, or a reunion with friends, we invite you to River’s Edge. We would love to host you and help you create your next great memory. Guests have full access to the cabin, deck, yard, and riverfront. Watercraft, including a kayak, canoe, and paddleboard, are available for guest use. Outdoor amenities such as the fire pit, BBQ, and pizza oven are all yours to enjoy. Please keep in mind most of these outdoor amenities are only available seasonally (Memorial Day weekend through Columbus / Indigenous Peoples’ Day weekend). Please inquire for specific questions. While you’ll feel miles away from civilization, the cabin is perfectly situated in the heart of the Russian River Valley. A car is highly recommended, and the drive along River Road and the Bohemian Highway is scenic and part of the adventure. Free parking for up to 4 vehicles is available on-site. The cabin provides direct river access for swimming or kayaking, while nearby attractions, scenic drives, beaches, and wineries are all easily reachable by car. • 0.5-mile walk to the river access • 2-minute drive to Northwood Golf Club. This is a rare chance to play a course designed by Dr. Alister MacKenzie (the architect of Augusta National) set entirely within a Redwood forest. • 10-minute drive to downtown Monte Rio • 10-mile (20-minute) drive to the west takes you to the Pacific Ocean where the river meets the sea at Jenner. • 5–15-minute drive to multiple local Pinot Noir wineries • 15-minute drive to Armstrong Redwoods State Natural Reserve • 20-minute drive to Charles M. Schulz–Sonoma County Airport (STS) Seasonal River Access: The dock and stairs are seasonal and may be removed from October through May depending on river conditions. Just 5 minutes from Guerneville’s restaurants and 15 from the Sonoma Coast. Your deck becomes a front-row seat to river life — watch kayakers drift by as eagles soar overhead. This is Monte Rio magic: where time slows down and the river sets the pace. Spend mornings on the deck as mist lifts off the Russian River, afternoons floating the river or visiting Korbel and Joseph Jewell tasting rooms, and evenings around the firepit with the day’s bottles. A leather sofa pulls in beside the gas fireplace as sliding glass doors open to your private deck. A small desk corner is set up for a stretch of remote work; track lighting and bamboo blinds keep the room warm. Honey-toned cabinets and a French door fridge open the kitchen straight onto the dining area. The downstairs double room sits in a vaulted nook with built-in shelving — a quiet retreat for kids or a second couple. OUTDOOR LIVING Your stone patio hosts a hot tub alongside a fire pit table for evenings under the stars. The wooden deck features a gas grill with propane and seating with tropical-print pillows on patterned rugs. From this hillside perch, the Russian River winds through the forested valley below. SLEEPING ARRANGEMENTS The main bedroom offers a queen bed beneath exposed ceiling beams with orange accent chairs. Downstairs, the basement provides a double/full bed in a nook with vaulted ceilings and built-in shelving. Total capacity: 4 guests. PROPERTY AMENITIES -- Private hot tub -- Gas fireplace -- Fire pit table -- Gas grill with propane -- Full kitchen -- Dog-friendly (max 2 dogs, 80 lbs each) Drop into the private hot tub on the stone patio, light the fire pit, and watch the river slip through the trees beyond the deck. You’ve got the whole home, dogs welcome, with a gas fireplace, outdoor dining, and a few separate sleeping structures across the property. Punch in the keypad code at the door; two small cars fit in the driveway. Monte Rio is about 90 minutes from San Francisco via 101 and River Road — a winding drive through redwoods and river country. The cottage provides parking for two vehicles in the driveway. A car makes the Russian River Valley easy to explore, from redwood trails to riverside wineries. Cell service gets patchy in the redwoods, so downloading offline maps before you arrive is worth it. The cottage stays naturally cool thanks to the redwood canopy and river breezes — like most Russian River properties, there’s no air conditioning, though summer days can reach the 80s-90s. We provide high-speed internet (236 Mbps) perfect for streaming or remote work, though cell service can be spotty in the redwoods. Your dogs are welcome here! The property accommodates up to 2 dogs (80 lbs max each). They’ll love exploring the forested surroundings and nearby trails. Please note you’ll climb stairs from the parking area to reach the front door — the cottage is perched on the hillside for those spectacular views. The primary renter must be 21 or older. Take advantage of the washer and dryer for longer stays. For the best river experience, bring water shoes for rocky areas and binoculars for wildlife watching. The hot tub is serviced weekly and ready for star gazing. License number: TVR24-0035,LIC24-0966
