Stickle Cottage is right in the heart of the Great Langdale Valley, one of the most spectacular valleys in the Lake District. The cottage can be found at the base of the magnificent Stickle Ghyll waterfall and between two famous Lakeland watering holes – The New Dungeon Ghyll Hotel and Stickle Barn Tavern (now owned by the National Trust). Stickle Cottage is a historic traditional Lakeland farmhouse providing spacious accommodation for up to 8 guests. Entering the property downstairs there is a large porch area great for rucksacks and boots, a modern shower room, a spacious lounge with wood burning stove and large dining table. Accessed from the lounge is one of the large twin bedrooms. To the rear of the house is the spacious kitchen and additional dining area. Upstairs are 3 more bedrooms consisting a twin room, spacious double bedroom, and a further spacious double with en-suite facilities. Outside there is parking for up to three cars. The position of this cottage really has to be seen to be believed – Step out of the door and you have some of the best low and high level walks in the Lake District. The less strenuous approach takes you along the fantastic valley carved out of the rock millions of years ago by a glacier. More strenuous takes you up Dungeon Ghyll famous for rock climbing, or to Stickle Tarn dominated by the ominous Pavey Ark. Thrill seekers can attempt the notorious “Jacks Rake” with almost sheer drops hundreds of feet down to the tarn below, or to the right is “Easy Gulley”, but don’t be fooled by the name!! The rest of the Langdale Pikes are easily reached from the cottage. The Stickle Barn and New Dungeon Ghyll are right on the doorstep for some great food and local ales. The famous climbers inn The Old Dungeon Ghyll with its quaint bar and sloping floor is a short walk down the valley. The property is on a main bus route with a bus stop approximately 50 yards from the front door. Ambleside is just under 6 miles away and Great Langdale is close to access the neighbouring villages of Grasmere and Hawkshead.

Heron Place has been extended to accommodate 8 guests (3 double rooms and a twin), with an extended kitchen, wonderful oak-framed garden room, and 3 beautiful bathrooms. The renovation and extension work has been completed to a very high standard in 2018 and the owners have spared no expense in fitting out and furnishing this wonderful home. Situated in Great Langdale, it is a great base for walking this beautiful valley. Heron Place was built in the 1930’s in the style of a traditional Lakeland farmhouse. The interior of the property retains many of its original features, with strong influences from the Arts & Crafts movement. A great deal of attention has been paid to warmth and stylish furnishings throughout the property – this is very much a home for the owners who are sharing this with us. There is almost an acre of garden, which has been carefully planted, with paths and various seating areas which provide dramatic vistas of the stunning views into Great Langdale. A wooden deck has been built around the tree in the middle of the garden, which provides an amazing area to sit and enjoy the views. A beck runs off the fells through one side of the garden, and is now incorporated as a feature in the garden room. The Langdale Pikes dominate the area, and provide an awesome sense of scale. With breathtaking views from every window, one could spend days relaxing with a cup of tea (or something stronger) looking over the fields to the fells beyond. For the more adventurous, an abundance of some of the Lake Districts best walks are available directly from the doorstep, whether a gentle stroll to Easedale Tarn, a climb over to the Langdale valley or to the popular local peaks of Helm Crag and Silver How, the only transport you may possibly need is a good pair of walking boots. The open plan living space has a modern kitchen with farmhouse table, perfect for that country breakfast or wholesome meal after a day on the fells. The lounge space comfortably seats 4 guests with a log burning stove for those cosy nights in, underfloor heating, generated by a ground source heat pump is provided throughout the property to warm up the beautiful stone floors that run through every room. For those brighter and warmer days, the living space extends onto a spacious patio, ideal for dining alfresco or for pre-dinner drinks before heading into the village of Grasmere, where there is a selection of bars, restaurants and traditional inns. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you will need, including a large fridge/freezer, a compact dishwasher, a washer/dryer and a Nespresso coffee machine. The master bedroom has a king size bed with plenty of storage plus views over the surrounding countryside. The second bedroom is a cosy twin with two single beds. Both bedrooms are decorated with a natural colour palette which adds to the cosy interior, drawing the beautiful outside into the comfortable interior of the property. The family bathroom features a separate large walk-in shower as well as a comfortable bath to soothe those tired legs after a day’s walk. Natural locally made Pure Lakes Toiletries add to the relaxing experience. There is parking available for two cars and a 7kW electric vehicle charger for the exclusive use of guests. There is an undercover porch for donning waterproofs if the inclement Lake District weather strikes. Given the stunning rural location of this property, access is via a single lane track, through a working farmyard at the end of Easedale Road with two or three field gates to open, although easily accessible with most standard vehicles. The property is dog friendly for 2 well behaved pets which must not be left in the property unattended or allowed on the furniture or beds. There is a £25 additional charge per stay. Although accidents sometime happen, any damage caused by pets may be liable for reimbursement by guests. Please note although you have your own outside space and beautiful patio with stunning views, this is open to the grounds of the whole property including the adjacent Blindtarm. There is super fast Starlink Satellite internet at the property, however movile telephone service can be limited - we recommend enabling wifi calling on your mobile device so telephone calls are easy to make. The village of Grasmere has good transport links. The 555 599 bus services offer journeys every half-an-hour in the summer season and every hour in the winter, providing easy access to the towns of Keswick, Ambleside and Windermere. The nearest train station is in Windermere, just 35 minutes by bus or car from Grasmere village centre. There are many great walking routes from the doorstep and further afield, we would love to offer recommendations of our favourites.

Christmas Cottage is a lovely self catering cottage in Chapel Stile village, near Ambleside, in the heart of Langdale – the heart of the Lake District and a walkers delight.Apart from the large vaulted living room, which the dining area overlooks, there is a modern kitchen, a family bathroom, and three bedrooms (two doubles and a twin); great space for 6 guests, with a contemporary feel. The master bedroom has a large en-suite bathroom. Outside there is terraced space around the cottage and a seating area to enjoy in the warmer weather. along with parking space for 2 cars. Rhubarb Cottage is set on the top lane of Chapel Stile, in the Langdale Valley, close to Ambleside and in the heart of some of the most stunning scenery in the Lake District  - a walkers’ paradise. Coming soon, availability from November 2023 Built on the fell-side over 3 levels, Spedding Fold offers superb views across Langdale towards Lingmoor Fell. The quiet location is within 15 minutes drive of Ambleside & Grasmere, with abundant walks from the door. Spedding Folds owners have set up the house to serve all the needs of a large family group. With plenty of space to spread out between the lounge and conservatory with pool/snooker table, and two TVs are also installed.  Free Wifi available so you can easily keep in touch, or work if you have to. Catering for 10 can be quite a challenge but with the kitchen fitted with 2 ovens and 2 hobs, space for all the food won’t be a problem. The dining room with table seating 10 joins both the kitchen and the garden. The fell side garden and patio area are great for kids to run off steam or for eating outside on warm summer evenings. The bedrooms are spacious and light, with all rooms to the front of the house providing great views of the valley and the rear rooms look out at the garden and fell-side. The top floor family room has an ensuite shower room, the master bedroom on the first floor has a shower room, with large walk in shower, sink and w.c. The first floor also benefits from a separate w.c. On the ground floor, the property has a double garage, which is accessed from the lower hallway and down some steps or from the outside using the up and over garage doors. Oak Cottage, built in the 1850s, is a traditional Lakeland three bedroom property that sleeps six, spread over four floors. It is one of a terrace on the small road in Chapel Stile leading up to Holy Trinity Church. Chapel Stile is the gateway to the Langdale Valleys, a stunning area with breathtaking scenery and a great place to enjoy a holiday in the Lake District. The local shop, cafe and pub are about 200 metres from Oak Cottage, so you can enjoy a morning coffee or afternoon drink a short walk away. The popular, bustling towns of Ambleside, Grasmere, Windermere and Keswick are short drives away or a bus trip for those who prefer not to negotiate narrow winding roads and search for car parking spaces. Oak Cottage really is an idyllic Lake District holiday cottage in a great location. Its entrance leads into a small hallway followed by an open plan lounge, kitchen and dining area. Comfortable seating for six surrounds the open fireplace, flat screen TV, blue ray DVD player and BT Vision. The lounge is a cosy space to enjoy a good film after a day out exploring on the Lake District fells or curl up in front of the fire with a good book. The kitchen has warm, oak fronted units, double oven, microwave, gas hob, dishwasher and fridge/freezer. The large oak dining table seats six, so you can all enjoy a meal together while you make plans for the rest of your holiday in the Lake District. There are two bedrooms on the first floor. The master bedroom has a king size bed, en-suite shower room and views over the village centre from the bedroom. The second bedroom has a double bed with the best view, looking over the fields down Great Langdale Valley, towards Lingmoor Fell. The main family bathroom with bath, WC and sink, is next to this double room, almost making it ensuite. On the second floor is the large ‘L’ shaped twin bedroom with ensuite shower room, sink and WC, small seating area with TV (freeview only) and tea making facilities. This room is perfect for grandparents or grown up children wanting a bit of space. From the lounge there is access to the basement which has been converted into a games and TV room suitable for children. Myrtle Cottage, in Chapel Stile, is one of a row of traditional Lakeland stone houses dating from around 1870, built for a local family of shoemakers and cobblers.  Myrtle Cottage is laid out on three floors and provides accommodation for five people. Downstairs is the lounge and kitchen / dining area.  On the first floor are a double and single bedroom and bathroom, and on the top floor a double room.  There is a large basement running the length of the house accessed from the garden and the kitchen, which is useful for storing bikes and drying wet clothing and boots. From the cellar, there is access to the rear of the house to the small garden, with a grassed area, flowerbeds and a small paved area with seating which has views up the valley and of the surrounding hills. There is on-street parking to the front of the property, and further parking available locally. The heart of the village is just a short stroll away. This is a lovely romantic, traditional cottage tucked away close to the church in Chapel Stile, which is a few miles from Ambleside and Grasmere. The property has been fully refurbished to a high standard, with an open plan ground floor, and a lovely large bedroom on the 1st floor with en-suite shower room and also a roll-top bath to relax in. The tasteful decor and soft furnishings together with the wood burning stove and under floor heating help to create a warm and cosy atmosphere. The property has undergone a significant refurbishment, but kept in place its traditional features such as exposed ceiling beams, slate fireplace, thick walls, vaulted ceiling and picturesque windows. This peaceful cottage promises fire-side warmth in winter, a terraced patio for summery days, and a fine local pub nearby to follow those hard days on the fells. The greatest treat is the view from the master bedroom’s brass bed. Parking on the lane just down the hill from the cottage . Cherry Tree Cottage is a wonderful surprise. A small traditional lakeland end terrace in the heart of this Langdale village, which has been completely remodelled inside to provide a fantastic cosy two bedroom hideaway over three floors. The top loft bedroom provides stunning views towards Lingmoor from the low velux window. The front door opens into a spacious open plan living-dining-kitchen space, tastefully furnished, and very well equipped. Clean simple furnishings to relax with in front of the log burner. The stairs lead up to the first floor where the first double bedroom is tucked away at the front, and the shower room and toilet at the back. The stairs lead up to the next floor to reveal the double loft bedroom, with large Velux windows front and back. Chapel Stile is in the heart of the Langdale, with fantastic scenery and walking, with The Langdale Pikes, Bowfell and Scarfel. The Wainwright Inn is a short walk from the house, and the local Coop has a wide range of essentials and much more.

The Eltermere Old Barn enjoys an enviable position, next to the Eltermere Inn with the most beautiful view out over Elterwater with Loughrigg Fell to your left, Park Fell and Black Fell to your right and Wansfell straight over Elterwater in the distance. Sit on the terrace outside the kitchen and take it all in. This is surely the heart of the Lake District – you will certainly lose your heart to it! Sleeps 8 – 3 Doubles (Master with ensuite), and 1 twin room. Leaving the outstanding views and stepping into the beautiful farmhouse-style kitchen, there is a great sense of space, with the large kitchen island and traditional Aga range. This is the perfect room to prepare and enjoy family meals or celebrate a special occasion together. The large living room next door is the perfect place to relax with it’s contemporary furnishings and traditional décor. Privacy is assured with stairs to the bedroom floor at both ends of the house, and the mix of contemporary and traditional styling is continued throughout the four bedrooms, which all enjoy the views out towards Elterwater. Number 2. Plumblands  is a charming property situated in Chapel Stile in the Langdale Valley, recently renovated to a high standard. Stunning views from the house with a  seating area in the garden looking over Lingmoor - perfect for a glass of something cold on the terrace at the end of the day! The cottage sleeps 6 and has a wonderful open plan living room with log burner, dining area and kitchen with oak fittings and flooring. A ground floor double room and shower room opposite make a great addition to making all facilities accessible on a ground floor level. Barnhowe is a beautiful stone built, detached, early 19th century property situated on Elterwater Common. Previously it was one of a number of buildings used by the local blacksmith for the village. It was converted into a residence in the last century and in the very recent past has undergone another transformation into a very desirable residence. 2 of the bedrooms have zip and link beds which can be made up into either doubles or twin beds. Accommodation for up to 6 people comprises on the ground floor of a large dining and sitting room, a cosy lounge, and kitchen leading on to utility room, shower room with limestone flooring and WC. The highest quality wood, limestone flooring and top of the range appliances and equipment have been fitted and the kitchen features an Aga range cooker. Upstairs on the 1st floor there is a large hallway leading to 1 double and 1 twin bedroom, and a family bathroom. On the top floor is a fantastic bedroom built into the roof with feature beams and wood panelling which leads into a large en-suite bathroom and in turn to a dressing room. The top floor bathroom features a freestanding roll top bath. There is oil fired central heating throughout and this is complemented by wood burning stoves in both the living room and the dining room. Barnhowe is a wonderful old property with thick walls and a layout which makes the most of the available space. The top bedroom with its large, luxurious en suite bathroom is reached by a narrow, winding staircase and the bed is very low to the ground. It is worth noting that access to this room may prove difficult for the very young, the elderly or anyone with mobility problems. However the attractive top floor bedroom, bathroom and dressing room provide a delightful privacy and comfort which more than makes up for the access and narrowness of the stairs. Outside is a a small well established garden and a stone flagged patio seating area that guests can enjoy. The garden leads out onto the surrounding common with magnificent views across to the Langdale Pikes. There is ample parking for 3 cars. The famous Britannia Inn is juts a short stroll away from the front door, and the recently opened Elterwater Cafe is just on the corner in the former post office. There is a bus stop in the centre of the village, which take takes you further up the valley to Great Langdale, or down to Skelwith Bridge, and then Ambleside, where you can get connections to Kendal and Keswick.

Rosegate Cottage is a fantastic apartment style holiday cottage in the village of Elterwater. The elevated position ensures superb views across the meadows and village. On entering the hallway accommodation comprises of a spacious beautifully presented double bedroom with en-suite wc/shower room, tastefully furnished open plan lounge/well equipped kitchen/& dining area with french doors opening out onto the patio area. Keira’s Cottage has a wonderful open plan living room with a mezzanine bedroom floor above with the vaulted ceiling, oak fittings and flooring. Leading off the living room, the kitchen is well designed and equipped with Neff applicances with a separate utility room with additional storage and clothes washing facilities. A mile away is Chapel Stile with a well-stocked village shop and the Wainwright Inn. Elterwater is in the heart of Langdale with some of the best walking in the Lake District pretty much right from the doorstep. Jontys is a well converted barn, originally a sawmill for local cartwrights and joiners when the village provided gunpowder for the local slate mines, and now the ground floor of two well appointed apartments in this fabulous Langdale village. Located in the picturesque village of Elterwater, this cottage has been a long time favourite for walkers enjoying Loughrigg Fell from the doorstep, The Langdale Pikes, or just gentle strolls along the beck or over to Grasmere for gingerbread teas.  There is outside seating to soak up the sun and enjoy the views, or snuggle up in front of the wood burning stove inside and relax after a day exploring. Pippins, in Elterwater is a traditional Lakeland end of terrace cottage dating back to the 18th century. Pippins is tastefully decorated and furnished to a high standard, and provides cosy accommodation for up to 4 holiday makers. On the ground floor is a spacious cottage style lounge with feature fireplace with a gas fired wood effect stove, kitchen and dining area. Up the stairs are a double bedroom and a twin bedroom.There is a family bathroom and WC / shower room (en suite). Outside at the rear is a private patio which leads into a sizeable well-kept garden shared with other properties in the row, in which to sit and enjoy the peace of the valley after a hard day’s walking. Parking is available locally via on street parking. The cottage has 1 permit which must be displayed when parking within the controlled zone area within the village. Further parking is available outside of the controlled zone, or if you are National Trust Members you can park for free in the National Trust Car Park in Elterwater. Elterwater is one of the prettiest villages in the Lake District and the location of Pippins puts you right in the heart of the village. The famous Britannia Inn is juts a short stroll away from the front door, and the recently opened Elterwater Cafe is just at the end of the terrace in the former post office. Bus stop is located outside the Elterwater Cafe, and runs to Ambleside, and further up the valley to Great Langdale.

The cottage is a 2 bed property with everything you need for a cosy stay in the heart of the Lake District – a well-appointed kitchen, living area with open fire, and two double rooms upstairs with a bright family bathroom. Within the property you will find a single parking permit for the National Trust Car Park over the road. I may not be available in person however the Office is a couple of minutes around the corner, Where you will find our staff on hand to help with any enquiries or requests. Elterwater is in our opinion the most beautiful village in the South Lakes area, and a fantastic base to explore the Langdale area which has some of the most stunning scenery and challenging hills in the Lakes. The Britannia Inn is only a few steps away, with a great menu and a fantastic range of beers. The Elterwater Café has a extensive menu from sandwiches to a full cooked breakfast, and if you want to spoil yourself, dinner at the Eltermere Inn is highly recommended. Enjoy the village, and explore the surrounding hills from the Langdale Pikes to Scarfell and the local attractions of Slater’s Bridge and Cathedral Cavern, or a riverside walk to Skelwith Bridge rewarded by cake or something more substantial at Chesters. Our local bus stop can be found moments away from the front door of 2 Bridge Syke. From here you’ll be able access Great Langdale, Ambleside Hawkshead and more of our local villages and Towns.

NEW PROPERTY from April 2023 onwards - recently fully refurbished. This lovely little cottage by the bridge in Elterwater has been completely renovated during 2022, with a modern open plan layout on the ground floor, including a well fitted kitchen area, living and dining, with a wood-burning stove.  The 1st floor has two bedrooms (a double and a twin), and there is a lovely modern shower room. The house is the corner property of this lovely little terrace by the river and next to the bridge, with the garden at the front and around the side of the cottage.  There is also an outbuilding which makes excellent storage for bikes and gear. Elterwater is a very pretty village at the gateway into Langdale, and also where our office is located.  Home to our favourite local pub the Brittania Inn, and also the wonderful cocktail bar Lanty Slee which is a quick walk out of Elterwater towards Red Bank, located in the old Wayside Pulpit chapel.  Over the bridge towards Colwith is The Eltermere Inn Country Hotel, which has a wonderful bar and restaurant - something to treat yourselves to during your stay. Langdale and Little Langdale is where all the best lumpy stuff is, so park your car up and walk from the village to enjoy some of the best walking in the Lake District. This is a cosy retreat for 4, close to the centre of Elterwater, in the heart of the Langdale Valley This is a delightful and well planned property right in the heart of Elterwater and the Langdale Valley. Well furnished and equipped, this lovely little cottage has everything you need for a stay in the Lakes, with an open plan kitchen-diner-living space, with Smart TV and log burner, two double bedrooms (one with ensuite) and a separate bathroom. There is parking for one car directly outside the property. If you have a second car there is a carpark in the village and you can find parking nearby in a few locations. Beck Steps as the name suggests is right by Langdale Beck just after it has passed under the bridge in Elterwater. A recently refurbished property that sleeps up to 8 across 3 double rooms (2 of which are ensuite), and 1 twin. There are 2 sitting rooms with log burners, the lower sitting room just outside 1 of the double bedrooms. The property has been decorated to a high standard, and the open plan kitchen and dining area has a bright and airy feel about it. Beck Steps has lovely views from the front towards Elterwater, and benefits from an outside terraced area with a table and benches for those summer evenings and a bit of alfresco dining. There is ample off-street parking for up to 3 cars, and if you are National Trust members you can park for free in the National Trust Car park close by. Priest End in Chapel Stile dates back in part to the 16th century, and is a traditional, stone-built, whitewashed cottage located next to the Church; The Great Langdale Holy Trinity, and once used to accommodate visiting priests. The slightly elevated position provides good views over the nearby cottages to the surrounding fells. With nearly 400 years of history the cottage has some fantastic features with beamed ceilings, stone-flagged floors and a stone turned staircase. The cosy accommodation comprises on the ground floor of small porch, cottage style kitchen and dining area, lounge with wood-burning stove and WC / shower / utility room. On the first floor are 1 double, 1 twin and 1 single bedroom and a bathroom. Outside to the front is a small paved area with flowerbeds and seating, and to the rear a terraced garden climbs up the hillside behind the cottage providing wonderful views from the grassed area at the very top. End Cottage is a traditional white stone built Lakeland Cottage with an abundance of character and not a straight wall in the place!. It is at the Eastern end of the village of Chapel Stile, as the name suggests, and from the doorstep you can literally walk straight out onto the fells. End Cottage is a good base to explore the many activities in the local area with some of the best scenery and walking right on the doorstep.
