Downstairs, a light and spacious open-plan living area welcomes you, with comfortable sofa and armchair, smart TV, and the log-burner making a lovely feature in the space. An initial basket of logs are provided for you, so you can get that cosy glow straightaway! The kitchen and dining area are immaculate and very well equipped, with everything you need to create your favourite holiday meals, including dishwasher, fridge-freezer, full oven and hob, dishwasher, microwave, kettle and toaster. There is also a washing machine for convenience if needed. Upstairs, there are 2 separate bedrooms both with tasteful and stylish décor. The master has a super king-size bed, ample storage, and a view out over the fields. The second bedroom offers great flexibility, with a full-size single bed, and then the option of having an extra trundle bed if required, suitable to sleep a child. The bathroom is smart and modern, being fully tiled with a very generous sized walk-in shower enclosure complete with a large rainfall showerhead, basin and WC. Outside, there is an open courtyard area to the front, and ample private parking for up to 2 cars nearby. Locally there is a pub and a shop within walking distance for convenience, and plenty more amenities close at hand within a few miles drive. The historic market towns of Clitheroe and Longridge are both within easy reach, offering a delightful selection of independent shops, cafes, restaurants, and attractions. Other local attractions include Clitheroe Castle, Bowland Wild Boar Park, Browsholme Hall, and Blackpool which is under an hour’s drive away. If you want to immerse yourself in the countryside, there are multiple footpaths nearby giving you the option to have a leisurely walk right from the door and explore the rural area. There is also the Ribble Way, a 70 mile long stretch of beautiful scenery that can be picked up in several different locations. This fantastic property is an ideal place to stay for business travellers, corporate guests, tourists, remote workers and contractors. Two of the 3 bedrooms come with a double bed that, upon request can split into two singles The other bedroom is a single. If further bedding is required, we have a quality sofa bed in the lounge that can sleep another 2 people. All linen for any bed configuration is supplied, together with towels to make your stay as comfortable as possible. The largest room in the house is the open plan kitchen and dining room area. This spacious area comes with a large table big enough to seat up to 7 people. Ellen’s Cottage is a beautifully presented, 17th century cottage located on Boardmans Farm, one of the oldest buildings in Hawkshaw dating back to 1707. The cottage is full of character but with all the modern requirements for a cosy stay. It’s an ideal choice for the perfect couples getaway. Ellen’s Cottage can be found up a quiet lane with no through traffic. The picturesque exterior with centuries of character is surrounded by beautiful gardens. The gardens are south-west facing over the landscape and have outdoor furniture where guests can soak up the sun in the summer before heading inside the rustic, cosy cottage. On entering the cottage, the oak beams against the white walls oozes charm throughout, a grandfather clock setting the tone of this historic building. A log fire will warm those cold evenings, and a comfortable sofa to relax in sits off the stairs to the bedroom adjacent to the kitchen at the rear, well-stocked with all the amenities and utensils required to cook up a feast. Up the stairs can be found the luxurious four poster double bed, enjoying countryside views to the south. The bathroom is equipped with a bath and shower, with complimentary amenities for your stay. The local pub is only 1 mile down the lane to Hawkshaw Village, where you will find further amenities at the village store. Ellen’s Cottage has parking for two cars. Located in a hidden corner of what was originally part of the Estate of the Low Wood / Casterton school, made famous by the well known novelists and poets, The Bronte Sisters. This spacious property has been recently renovated and styled to provide a perfect holiday home for families and couples alike. The property benefits from its own private parking which leads down a few steps to the properties glazed entrance, which has plenty of space for storing walking boots and perhaps a couple of bicycles. The property is in a rural location yet moments away by car from the popular market town of Kirkby Lonsdale. The nearest train station is Oxenholme and is approximately a 20 minute taxi ride away.

The first floor is of open plan design with exposed ceiling beams, comprising of a large and very modern fitted kitchen with NEFF appliances throughout, including a large integrated fridge freezer and dishwasher. The outside space is in abundance with a large rear garden and patio furniture. Two lockable outbuildings are available for storage of bikes and muddy boots. There is also a cottage side seating area for you to sit outside and enjoy the peace and quiet throughout the day. Ample private off road parking is located in the car park just a short walk from the property at the end of the row of houses. The site dates back to the early 1800’s when Cowan Bridge School / The Clergy Daughters’ School relocated to the site more recently known as Casterton School. The building became accommodation for the pupils of Casterton School prior to a recent merger with Sedbergh School. In 1824, Charlotte Brontë and her sisters attended Cowan Bridge School, known as The Clergy Daughters’ School.
