If your dreams of Tuscany feature rolling hills, olive groves, quaint farmhouses and a touch of modern luxury, look no further than this villa. Nestled into olive groves with views of Lucca in the distance, the villa has all the charm of rural Tuscany but makes a convenient base for exploring the area. And although the six-bedroom Villa was restored in 2020 to feature perks like its own Spa, its architecture is still beautifully traditional. Get a glimpse of daily life in Italy as you stroll the villa’s garden, relax on the terrace, dip into the panoramic swimming pool, grill local produce on the barbecue and sip wine at the outdoor dining area while gazing at the far-off medieval towers of Lucca. Whether you’ve been biking in the countryside or just sampling the local gelato, treat yourself to a session in the villa’s indoor jacuzzi at candlelight and an evening in front of the antique chimneypiece watching your favourite movies in multiple languages. Though you can see the past of VILLA IL CASTELLO in its traditional brick floors, beamed ceilings and fireplaces, the interiors feel bright and airy thanks to updated furniture and crisp light blue and white paint. Let yourself be charmed by the living room’s geometric-patterned rug and elaborately carved sofa table as you sink into the sleek taupe sectional. A long table, eclectic chairs and a contemporary chandelier make the dining room particularly inviting, and the fully equipped kitchen has a central breakfast bar perfect for gathering around. The bedrooms at VILLA IL CASTELLO have the same intriguing combination of soft, traditional earth-toned walls and furnishings with a slightly modern edge. Plan to fly into the Pisa airport, which is only 35 mins from the Villa. The museums, cafes and shopping in Lucca are just under 7 km from the property while groceries, supermarket and restaurants are just 2 kms away, and if it’s not a vacation without Thermal Baths, you’re in luck: Bagni di Pisa is only 15 km away. Take a day trip to San Gimignano, Pisa, Florence, Pistoia, Montecatini Terme, Cinque Terre, Volterra, Bolgheri, Forte dei Marmi, Viareggio or continue your Italian getaway in Rome, 278 km away. The villa is fully private, and the visible houses at the borders are empty rural buildings. A message directly from the owner to describe her experience and testament to future visitors: This house embodies the history of a farming family that has cultivated and cherished their land with respect for nature and its cycles. Surrounded by hectares of woodland and arable fields, it represents an invaluable heritage. Generations who have lived here, from my grandparents to my father and his brothers, along with their sharecropping families, have drawn sustenance from its fertile lands. During the Second World War, this estate stood as an example of harmony and solidarity, surviving through a coexistence of obligations, rights, and duties, while keeping traditions alive even in the most difficult times. "Barghini" is not just the name of the street where Villa del Nonno stands; it also represents the connection with my father’s uncle, the local "Lord" of the village who allowed my grandfather and his family to live in this house, expressing the desire that it be cared for and passed down to his favourite nephew, my father Cesare, the grandfather of my children. It is here, in this countryside, that I learned from my grandfather and father to recognize the sounds of birds, identify forest mushrooms, tend to fruit trees, and appreciate the serenity and beauty of sunsets. This house has also taught my children, through their grandfather, to love rural life in all seasons, to enjoy the simplicity of ingredients, and to experiment with recipes passed down by their grandmother. My grandmother, a strong and tenacious woman, managed the farm activities and sold products along the road, while my grandfather, more contemplative, dedicated his time to the plants that now flourish in the garden. All those family memories and feelings they are what I wish for my guests to experience and appreciate during their stay at Villa del Nonno: the tranquillity of the countryside, the value of nature and its traditions, the taste of extra virgin olive oil, and the exquisite products that Tuscany offers and cannot be found elsewhere. Hosting parties, events, or groups of young people is not permitted. The property includes a charging station for electric cars, available for an additional fee of €15 per day, payable on-site. If you require this service, please select the "owner’s quote" option. Thank you. Exterior security cameras on the estate.
