Our beautiful town of Konitsa spreads along the slopes of mount Trapezitsa. It is renowned for the impressive natural beauty of its soundings, its rich history and particular characteristic architecture of the Epirus region. It is a particularly fertile and green area, thanks to the local climate and the three large rivers that run around the area (Aoos, Voidomatis and Sarantaporos). This is also the reason for the uncountable hand built stone arch bridges that have been erected, real architectural marvels defining the decay of time for centuries. The most impressive of them all was built in 1870 and is the biggest single span arch bridge in Europe, consisting the entrance to the village and welcoming visitors from all over the world through the past three centuries. The village itself is naturally panoramic, thus offering unobstructed view to the mountains around. It is laced with narrow paved streets, most of them leading to the stone-paved square. Wandering in the old part of the town offers a time voyage and consists an unforgettable experience on its own. The stone built churches are prominent everywhere, the remarkable church of St. Nicolas being the main church of the village. There is also a public library and a permanent photography exhibition of the monuments of Konitsa, that exhibits the area from the Prehistoric Era to the Byzantine times. The local flavours comprise a big part of Epirus. It is very regionally peculiar and Konitsa is no exception to this delicious culture and tradition.
