Southern Hall is located on one of Savannah’s most picturesque streets, this estate residence overlooks a lovely brick and cobblestone street with ample, free on-street parking. Hall Street features wide sidewalks which are tree lined with crepe myrtles, magnolias, and evergreens. This area of the Savannah Historic District boasts amazing restaurants, cute coffee shops; and the Kroger grocery store (with Starbucks) is less than a block away. Three houses down is the popular Mate` Factor coffee and tea house which serves fabulous sandwiches and decadent pastries (Cherry Almond Muffins!). Just a three block walk to Forsyth Park, take the time to stroll among the Spanish moss draped live oaks, people watch from a bench, and visit the iconic fountain. The historic riverfront is a beautiful 20 minute walk away.
Built in 1892 and designated a Historic Landmark in 1973, the elegant charm of Southern Hall Estate will transport you to turn of the century Savannah! Totaling 3,068 square feet, this spacious two story, four bedroom home is entered through an inviting foyer replete with mother-of-pearl inlaid antiques, art, and mirrors. Highlights include an elegant interior, four lovely outdoor porches, spacious, enchanting courtyard, and ample parking. The serene blue grey color scheme is complemented by eleven foot ceilings, twenty-one chandeliers, hardwood floors, five decorative fireplaces, floor to ceiling curtains, antiques, and artwork at every turn.
The bright and roomy living rooms on both floors will welcome you with comfy sofas, flat screen smart HDTVs, and decorative fireplaces with grand antique andirons. Oversized artwork and mirrors along with gorgeous chandeliers are sure to wow you! Downstairs, the mirrored dining table comfortably seats six in stylish upholstered chairs. Fix yourself a cocktail from the bar cart and stroll through the Tudor French doors to relax on the classic Southern front porch. Your biggest decision will be the porch swing or rocking chairs. Attached to the upstairs living room is a formal dining room with elegant padded chairs and bench seating. An oversized chandelier and ornately framed nostalgic oil painting add an aura of yesteryear to your dining experience. You will find full well-equipped kitchens on both floors featuring a baker’s racks with dishes, cookware, and cookbooks (the owner’s wife is a retired professional yacht chef!). Just outside the upstairs kitchen is an extremely luxurious and comfortable balcony porch featuring a dining table and chairs for six which gives you the option of al fresco dining overlooking scenic Hall Street. A comfortable sectional and cocktail table create a wonderful lounging area to enjoy the sights and sounds of Savannah while relaxing with a drink and hors d’oeuvres or later with coffee and dessert.
The bedrooms in our Savannah vacation rentals will make you feel right at home. This property can sleep a total of twelve guests with two pull-out queen sofa beds and two queen air mattresses. The four spacious bedrooms feature super comfy king sized beds, high-end pillows, flat screen smart HDTVs, oil paintings, and interesting accessories. Downstairs, the “Mahogany” bedroom has windows overlooking the courtyard, private access to the side porch, and a hand-carved, gilded console and mirror from a Palm Beach estate. The “Blue” bedroom also has access to the side porch, decorative fireplace, and a Maitland-Smith side table with chairs. The downstairs covered side porch offers a settee and two chairs overlooking lush vegetation and a ceiling fan to stay cool. Upstairs, the “Gold” bedroom features a Chinese wedding cabinet which is over two hundred years old and a Maitland-Smith table. The “Silver” bedroom has a door onto the porch, decorative fireplace, and plush upholstered bed. The upstairs side porch offers a settee and two rocking chairs overlooking the citrus trees on the porch next door. You’ll love going outside in the morning or evening for a relaxing moment away from everything!
One full bath has a tub-shower and memorabilia from the owner’s career as a US Navy carrier pilot. The other full bath features two ornate sconces over pedestal sinks, a tub-shower, and a dressing vanity. Both baths have plenty of water pressure. For your convenience, there are stacked full-size washers and dryers located in the hallways on both levels. Southern Hall features high speed Wi-Fi with ample bandwidth for all your electronic needs. Upstairs also has a Bose system to play your own music and a Blu Ray DVD player in the living room.
The 25 by 30 foot courtyard has fig ivy covered walls and features tables and chairs which can be configured into dining for twelve or split into smaller intimate seating. A full size gas grill enhances the outdoor dining experience. No courtyard in Savannah would be complete without an angel statue. This one is five feet tall and exudes the sublime feel of the courtyard. Your private off-street parking space is located behind the courtyard at the back of the property off Hall Lane.
