The Neighborhood

Casa Alloro sits in a seafront location near to San Lorenzo in Southern Sicily. Overlooking the Ionian Sea with beaches, shops, cafes and restaurants within walking distance, this is an ideal holiday location and you have everything you need nearby to enjoy your Sicilian break. Close to the villa, there are many small shopping areas and villages where you will find all the amenities you need day-to-day and some great places to eat. There are also a wide range of beaches close by from the wide sandy beaches of San Lorenzo, to the protected rocky coves of the Vendicari nature reserve where you can observe migrating birds such as flamingos. There are enough smaller towns and beaches nearby that you can base your entire holiday locally if you wish and have plenty to see and do. San Lorenzo and Marzamemi are two of the nearby towns, both under ten-minutes away. San Lorenzo is a much-loved seaside resort with fantastic beaches and eateries. Many of the attractions of San Lorenzo are based around the stunning coastline and if you would like to get out and enjoy more of it you could hire a boat or take part in a boat trip. Some of these trips can last the whole day and provide lunch, on a full-day trip you can snorkel over ship-wrecks, visit caves, learn about local history and stop for peaceful swimming breaks. Marzamemi is also built around the sea and you will love the old harbour which is the heart of the community. The village also has a few historic and religious buildings to visit, including a palace, a 10th-century tuna processing plant and the Church of San Francesco di Paola. Heading a little further out is the Baroque city of Noto. Noto is just 24km away but you will feel like you have stepped back in time when you see the majestic architecture. This beautiful city is a great place to visit and you could spend your time just taking in the atmosphere of the gorgeous streets such as Corso Vittorio Emanuele. This main street leads on to three pretty squares and three staggering churches. If you visit Noto in May, you will be treated to an incredible flower festival which lines the streets. If you prefer ancient history, then make a trip to Syracuse which is 53km away. Syracuse is a melting pot of cultures and is filled with historic buildings and monuments. A great place to start exploring, is the Archaeological Park Neapolis which is packed with a wealth of Greek and Roman ruins. Another way to immerse yourself in Syracuse is with a walking tour through the ancient streets, if you are a foodie you could book onto a food and wine tour meaning you get to enjoy the sites and the local cuisine at the same time.

Let’s try that again.
