Create lasting memories at First Light, a 1970’s original post-and-beam inlet beach home, and make it your retreat. Wake to the sunrise peaking over Meares Island, casting a golden hue over the water. With nearly an acre to explore, including the yard and private beach, the home comfortably sleeps up to 6 guests. Soak in the hot tub, steam in the cedar barrel sauna, or cozy up to the fire — these touches make the home truly special. From the house or yard, wildlife sightings are common, including orcas, herons, seals, and bears.
THE SPACE:
As you enter, large windows frame sweeping inlet views, and a propane fireplace anchors the open-concept living and dining area. The living room features a 55-inch Smart TV with Netflix, Prime, and Crave log-ins (no cable). Board games, cards, and books are available for a cozy night in. Binoculars are provided on the bar cart for wildlife viewing. The house is equipped with solar panels to reduce its carbon footprint.
KITCHEN:
Spacious enough for several cooks, the kitchen is stocked with everything needed to make an epic meal: basic spices, oil & vinegar, immersion blender, hand mixer, chef’s knives, soda stream, Ninja blender, and popcorn maker. Enjoy the ocean view while washing dishes. The dining table seats 6. Composting and recycling are encouraged.
COFFEE + TEA:
A starter supply of fresh, locally roasted Foggy Bean coffee is provided. Brew with a drip coffee maker (reusable filter), Breville espresso machine, or Le Creuset French press. Assorted organic teas from Ucluelet Thay Tea and two coffee flavor syrups are included for a sweet touch.
BATHROOMS: 2
Both bathrooms are stocked with locally made organic shampoo, conditioner by Carina and hand soap (all refillable). Seven body towels are provided for 6 guests, plus hot tub towels and a hair dryer. There is one bathroom downstairs with a tub/shower combo and upstairs has a shower.
BEDROOMS: 3
Ground Floor Bedroom: Queen bed with forest views, 2 windows and closet.
Loft Bedroom (Upstairs): King bed, closet and chair with a privacy screen
Primary Bedroom: Upstairs and extremely spacious with king bed and seating options - window seating for morning coffee and marine life watching. There are black-out blinds facing the ocean. The ensuite bathroom and walk in closet and office is accessed from here.
Two robes and natural plants provided in each bedroom for a calming nature connection. Linens provided are organic and duvet covers are linen blends.
WORKSPACE:
A walk-in “cloffice” off the primary bedroom includes a dedicated desk and chair by the window.
FITNESS:
Two yoga mats, resistance bands, and a set of small weights are available in a basket in the office.
PETIQUETTE:
Pet-friendly (1 dog max). Owner is open to 2 dogs potentially; please ask. Dog towels, a small bed, and bowls provided.
Please ensure dogs do not chase wildlife such as shorebirds and do not allow on furniture. Your pup must be kennelled when you are out to avoid damage. Further instructions provided in the house guide. $50 per dog before applicable taxes.
OUTDOORS:
The front yard features seasonal outdoor furniture (deck is uncovered). Two Adirondack chairs on the deck and four by the beach fire pit are available year-round. Paddleboards can be used from the property — safety first, wear life jackets and inform someone of your plans. Fire pit wood and axe are not provided (available at cost if requested). Propane firepit available during seasonal fire bans.
RUG RATS:
House is stocked with a baby gate, playpen, high chair, step stool, and children’s dinnerware. Do not leave children unattended in the loft area. The propane stove is hot to touch.
CHECK-IN:
Private entry with key access. Check-in from 4:30 PM onwards. Early check-in may be available with 24-hour notice.
Independent check-in: A Welcome Guide is sent prior to arrival and scannable at the house. A long-term tenant resides on the property in accordance with Tofino bylaw and respects guest privacy.
LOCATION:
Located just outside downtown Tofino, near the Crab Dock. Ideal for exploring downtown without a car. The MUP (multi-use path), free summer shuttle, walking, biking, and e-bike options make the area easily accessible.
GETTING AROUND TOFINO:
Getting around Tofino is part of the adventure! The scenic Multi-Use Path (MUP) runs through town and is perfect for walking, biking, jogging, or strolling.
PUBLIC TRANSIT:
Hop on the West Coast Transit bus for easy travel between Tofino and Ucluelet (and stops along the West Coast). It runs seven days a week with frequent service—and you can find routes, maps, and the full schedule here: https://bctransit.com/west-coast
Other easy options include:
• Bike & e-bike rentals for cruising town and trails
• Rideshare via the Coastal Rides app and Tofino Taxi (limited drivers)
• Pre-arranged private shuttles (Tiki Bus, Pacific Rim Navigators) for larger groups
• Rental cars, including Budget and EVO (pre-arranged airport pickup)
KNOW BEFORE YOU PARK:
Tofino has paid parking in many downtown and beach areas, especially in peak season. Signs and pay stations will show rates and time limits—typically hourly in effect May through October during daytime hours.
You can pay at kiosks or use mobile apps like Honk Mobile or PayByPhone to make it easy.
Tips:
• Parking spots are enforced daily; always check signs.
• Free short-term parking and resident permit options exist in certain zones.
• Consider alternative transit or bikes to skip parking hassles altogether!
PARKING:
Space for 2 cars, including EV charger.
LAUNDRY:
No laundry on-site. Limited access may be available for stays over 5 days — check with the owner. Laundromat available in town.
Eco-friendly laundry: Canadian-made Nellie’s Laundry Soap, unscented and ocean-safe. No dryer sheets used.
WILDLIFE & QUIET HOURS:
Quiet hours are from 10:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. Please respect the peaceful surroundings and the wildlife that frequent this coastal area. Due to wildlife keep all food items inside and cars secure.
TO NOTE:
Vintage home built in the 1970s with some original fixtures. Property is slowly being renovated. A few windows have broken seals, resulting in foggy appearance. Home priced lower than a new build to reflect this.
INSURANCE:
For direct bookings, this property is protected by TRUVI, a trusted guest verification platform similar to AirCover. After booking, you’ll receive a verification request from TRUVI, which must be completed prior to check-in.
BOOKING POLICIES:
• House is on septic — only flush toilet paper to avoid pump damage
• Long-term local tenant on site per Tofino bylaw
• Bookings subject to cleaning fee plus GST, PST, and MRDT
• Peak summer (June 15 – Sept 15) 3-night minimum stay; bookings must be back-to-back
• Mid-season rates on winter long weekends and Christmas
• 3-night minimum for all Canadian statutory holidays
• 5–10% discount for 7+ nights (not during peak season)
• Cancellation policy: Full refund less $50 cancellation fee plus GST if cancelled more than 30 days prior to arrival
