Set within a beautifully restored historic estate in western Crete, time seems to slow down in a place where hospitality, serenity and originality blend seamlessly with the surrounding landscape. Dating back more than 160 years, this remarkable property forms part of a traditional complex that once served as a self-sufficient residence, complete with storerooms, an olive mill, winepress and agricultural facilities. Today, while the estate has been carefully restored to offer modern comfort, its authentic architectural character remains intact. Natural stone, wood-beamed ceilings and ceramic elements reflect the heritage of the region, while light interiors with soft pastel tones create a calm and welcoming atmosphere throughout.
Within this charming complex lies Villa Isyra, a spacious two-level residence of approximately 230m² designed to combine traditional character with contemporary comfort. The villa accommodates up to five guests and features a master bedroom with a king-size bed, a second bedroom with a double bed and a third bedroom with a single bed. Two bathrooms, one on each level, offer showers and complimentary toiletries, while the generous living area provides a comfortable space to relax. A fully equipped kitchen includes a stovetop, oven, refrigerator, microwave, coffee machine, toaster, kettle and complete kitchenware, allowing guests to prepare anything from a simple breakfast to a family dinner with ease. Additional comforts include air conditioning, heating, a washing machine, television, safety deposit box, soundproofing and a private entrance.
Outside, the villa opens onto terraces and balconies that reveal sweeping views across the surrounding countryside and towards the sea. The courtyard reflects a minimalist Mediterranean aesthetic, centred around a private swimming pool and sun terrace shaded by an iconic mulberry tree near the entrance. Olive groves and orange orchards surround the estate, creating a tranquil setting that perfectly captures the essence of rural Crete.
The nearby area offers an authentic local atmosphere. The beach of Pyrgos Psilonerou, known for its deep crystal waters, attracts mainly locals and remains pleasantly unspoiled, while relaxed tavernas and small canteens line the shore. For livelier surroundings, the seaside villages of Maleme and Platanias are just a short drive away, offering beach bars, restaurants and a wide range of water activities. Further afield, guests can explore the historic charm of Chania, the dramatic landscapes of Samaria Gorge, Agia Lake’s natural beauty or visit local wineries and traditional dairy farms to experience the island’s celebrated gastronomy.
Villa Isyra operates within the historic complex and offers guests privacy while sharing the estate’s authentic character and surroundings. No smoking is permitted inside the villa. A refundable damage deposit may be required prior to arrival and will be returned after departure subject to a satisfactory property inspection. Any additional services, if requested, such as extra cleaning or concierge arrangements, may incur supplementary charges depending on the requirements of the stay.
