Exford Cottage, Wheddon Cross

Exford Cottage is a single-storey cottage at Wheddon Cross, sleeping two guests in one bedroom that can be set up as a king or a twin, whichever you prefer. There is one bathroom and no stairs from the car park, though the sloping nature of the site means it is not suitable for wheelchair users. The open-plan kitchen, dining and sitting area is spacious and comfortable, with a dining table seating two and two sofas around a stone fireplace, complemented by an electric flame-effect stove heater, a 24-inch TV with FreeSat and DVD player, and superfast Starlink internet. The bed is dressed in luxury linen, with plush White Company towels and Tyneham Luxury toiletries provided, along with an iron, ironing board and hairdryer. The kitchen is fully equipped with an oven, grill, hob, under-counter fridge with freezer compartment, microwave, kettle and toaster, plus all cookware, cutlery and crockery, along with teas, coffee, kitchen roll, cling film, foil and cooking oil. A treat of half a dozen fresh eggs and a locally made cream tea awaits on arrival. Outside, the cottage enjoys the largest garden of the collection, a generous southeast-facing lawn with outdoor furniture, opening onto two acres of shared gardens with far-reaching views, a lily pond, picnic tables, a large BBQ and garden games. Guests can also use the games room, with table tennis, pool, table football, board games and jigsaws, plus a decked area overlooking the ornamental pond; it can even be hired for private evening gatherings. A hot and cold dog shower is available, and free-range hens, pygmy goats and ducklings roam the grounds. Direct, car-free access leads from the garden into surrounding fields and onto Exmoor’s bridleways and footpaths. Parking is available on site, with space for larger vehicles such as camper vans or horseboxes by request, and occasional garage space for motorbikes or classic cars by prior arrangement. Two EV chargers are located in the upper car park.
