About the area
The Roman neighborhood of Balduina unfolds almost like a village of its own. It once marked the final stop along the Via Francigena, the ancient pilgrimage route leading to St. Peter’s Basilica. Located northwest of Rome’s city center, Balduina is nestled in nature.
It’s a peaceful residential area—part of the 14th Municipality—not too far from St. Peter’s and the heart of the city, perched on the southern slope of Monte Mario, the highest hill in Rome.
Anyone visiting Balduina for the first time will surely be struck by the natural beauty, including Monte Mario Park and Monte Ciocci Park.
The restaurant scene has recently become vibrant as well. While Heinz Beck’s La Pergola still shines at the top, several gourmet spots are making their mark: following Fodoo and Altro Giro during the height of the pandemic, Vivi Bistrot le Serre opened at the upper end of the neighborhood. It quickly became Balduina’s trendiest venue, perfect for candlelit dinners and outdoor aperitifs, thanks to its retro décor and soft lighting. Among gourmet pizzerias, Al 384 by award-winning Roberto Ferrone has been a hit for several years.
Belsito wine bar has become a go-to destination for wine lovers. A bit further up, the historic Da Luciano has recently refreshed its interiors.
