Property Summary The Crows Nest, Porlock Weir, is a charming thatched
end-of-terrace cottage perched above scenic Porlock Bay offering family
accommodation with the benefit of amazing sea views. It’s less than 5
mins walk to the 13th Century Harbour where you can find a pub and a
couple of restaurants to eat. Main Description The Crows Nest is access
from the car parking area via stone steps down to the front of the
property, then a few steps up to the front door. Entrance into the
downstairs hall, the sitting room to the right features a huge
inglenook fireplace with wood-burner, stone floors and exposed beams.
To the left, the large dining room is a great family room which also
provides seats at the windows, to relax with a book while enjoying the
views across the bay. The kitchen adjoins the dining room and there is
also a downstairs toilet off the dining room. On the first floor, the
master bedroom enjoys a King-sized bed with en-suite shower room
comprised of shower and hand basin only (no toilet in the en-suite).
Bedrooms two and three have twin beds, and there is a family bathroom
with a bath with shower attachment, bidet, toilet and hand basin.
Outside is a small private garden area at the front of the cottage with
wonderful views across the bay, plus private parking for two cars.

flat which is owned by the couple that own The Crows Nest, they only
use the flat a few times a year. It is entirely self-contained with a
separate entrance. Feel free to say hi if you see them as they are
lovely hosts! Dogs are welcome by prior arrangement (strictly a maximum
of 2). A supplementary fee of £15 will be added to your invoice per
dog. Please do not allow you dogs on the furniture or upstairs and do
not leave them alone in the property at any time. The Crows Nest is
strictly non-smoking. The harbour is the ’centre’ of Porlock Weir,
which is approximately 100 metres from The Crows Nest. There are two
restaurants (The Cafe and Miller’s at the Anchor), a pub (all three are
dog-friendly) and a range of individual shops such as tea rooms, Exmoor
Glass, etc. The village of Porlock is approximately 1.5 miles from The
Crows Nest and boasts three pubs, two grocery shops, a traditional
local butcher, chemist, cash machine, hardware shop, visitor centre and
a range of independent restaurants, shops and tea rooms. Many of the
shops in Porlock Weir and Porlock are open during traditional hours of
9 am to 5 pm, although hours are often extended during the summer
season. Conversely, some shops also reduce their opening hours out of
season. Minehead is the nearest town, approximately 7 miles from The
Crows Nest. Here you will find the larger supermarkets and petrol
stations (Tesco and Morrison’s are both situated on the outskirts of
the town and have longer opening hours), most major high street banks
with cash machines, plus a range of other shops throughout the town.
The property will be ready from 4 pm on the day of your arrival. Please
depart by 10 am on the last day of your stay. Please leave the property
clean and tidy so that we can guarantee it will be ready on time for
our next guests. The Crows Nest is available for week-long bookings
(Friday to Friday) and short breaks. Indoor Description The Crows Nest
kitchen is fitted with electric oven and hob, dishwasher, under-counter
fridge, separate under-counter freezer, and microwave. Other equipment
includes toaster, kettle, a variety of kitchen utensils, cutlery,
crockery and glasses. A washing machine and tumble dryer are situated
in the downstairs cloakroom, along with the iron and ironing board. The
television has channels provided by NowTV, which is an internet TV
service. There are various options for catch up channels (iplayer, etc)
and series’ of TV programmes available to watch, but it’s not possible
to watch live TV. However, there are various apps, so some sport can be
watched via the BBC Sport app, for example. There is also a DVD player
in the sitting room and wireless broadband is available throughout the
property. A travel cot is available on request; please request it when
booking so we can make sure it is present for your arrival. Electricity
and heating costs are included in the price of your accommodation. The
Crows Nest is fitted with central heating and there is also a wood
burner in the sitting room; some kindling and one basket of logs will
be provided in the cooler months. Additional logs can be purchased from
the hardware shop in Porlock. Bed linen, duvets, blankets and towels
are provided for your convenience, but please bring your own beach
towels if you wish to take towels with you on day trips. Bed linen is
not supplied for the cot. A small amount of tea, coffee, sugar, milk
and biscuits are provided to ensure you can have a hot drink as soon as
you arrive. There may also be other non-perishable items like salt,
pepper and a few herbs or spices available. Washing up liquid and
surface cleaner will be present in the property. One or two toilet
rolls will be provided. Outdoor Description The Crows Nest is accessed
by a path (with approx 12 shallow steps with handrail) from a private
drive beside the property, or via stone steps which lead directly on to
the lane below, both paths have gates. There is a small private
garden/patio with some seating in front of the cottage which is
enclosed by a waist-high gate. There are good walks from the door the
woods and beach. Parking Private off-road parking for two cars is
available at the top of the drive beside the property. The driveway
leading to the parking area is accessed by driving a few metres past
the property, it is a sharp left turn onto the the drive which is a
short steep slope, which opens out to the parking area. Sorry, there is
no EV charging available on site. The nearest charging points can be
found in Porlock at the Central Pay & Display Car Park (TA24 8PH). The
chargers are part of the Evolt network. There are 2 devices and 4
connectors available. Pets Description Up to two well-behaved dogs
welcome for supplement of £15 each. Restricted mobility The property
can only be accessed via steps (from the parking area, or from the road
below) so we recommend this property is not suitable for anyone with
limited mobility. Exit in case of emergency This has not been completed
by the owner. Christmas / New Year Some Christmas decorations will be
provided in the living area over the Christmas period (no tree) The

Porlock Weir is a picturesque harbour village on the Exmoor National
Park coastline in Somerset, with a history stretching back to the 15th
century. The small tidal harbour, with its ancient lock gates and
pebble beach, sits at the heart of a thriving community.
You’ll find a welcoming pub, restaurants ranging from relaxed dining to
Michelin-listed Italian cuisine, cosy cafes, and a popular street food
takeaway -- all within walking distance of the harbour. Independent
shops and galleries line the lanes, including Exmoor Glass, the Harbour
Gallery, and Porlock Bay Oysters, which opened expanded premises in
2024.
The larger village of Porlock is approximately one mile away and has a
broader range of amenities including grocery shops, a traditional
butcher, chemist, cash machine, hardware shop, visitor centre, and a
selection of independent restaurants and tea rooms. Most shops in
Porlock and Porlock Weir keep hours of 9am to 5pm, often extending
during the summer season.
Porlock Weir was recently used as a filming location for The Salt Path,
the adaptation of Raynor Winn’s bestselling memoir about walking the
South West Coast Path.
