About the area
Benalmádena, located on Spain's Costa del Sol, is a sun-drenched paradise that offers a delightful mix of sandy beaches, cultural attractions, and leisure activities. This coastal town is a favorite among those seeking both relaxation and adventure under the Mediterranean sun.
The town is divided into three main areas: Benalmádena Pueblo, the original village set on the mountainside, offers a glimpse into traditional Andalusian life with its whitewashed houses and narrow streets. Arroyo de la Miel, the bustling commercial center, is where visitors can find a variety of shops, restaurants, and attractions like Tivoli World, an amusement park that provides fun for the whole family. Benalmádena Costa is the coastal strip known for its lively promenade, marina, and the beautiful beaches that stretch along the shoreline.
One of the town's standout attractions is the Puerto Marina, an award-winning harbor known for its distinctive architecture and vibrant atmosphere. The marina is not only a haven for yachts and boats but also a hub of entertainment, with a plethora of bars, clubs, and restaurants that come alive at night. It's also the starting point for various water sports and boat excursions, including dolphin watching trips.
For those interested in cultural experiences, the Castillo de Colomares is a fairy-tale-like castle that pays homage to Christopher Columbus and the discovery of America. Its unique blend of architectural styles makes it a fascinating place to explore. The town also boasts the Benalmádena Stupa, the largest stupa in the Western world, offering a touch of spiritual serenity and panoramic views of the coast.
Nature enthusiasts will appreciate the La Paloma Park, a lush oasis in the heart of Benalmádena where peacocks roam freely, and the Selwo Marina, an interactive marine park where visitors can meet dolphins, penguins, and other sea creatures. The Teleférico Benalmádena offers a cable car ride up to the peak of Mount Calamorro, providing breathtaking views and opportunities for hiking and bird watching.
Golfers will find several well-maintained courses in the area, while those looking to unwind can enjoy the town's sandy beaches or visit the local spas. The gastronomic scene in Benalmádena is equally enticing, with a variety of dining options that serve fresh seafood, traditional Spanish tapas, and international cuisine.
In summary, Benalmádena's blend of natural beauty, cultural richness, and leisure facilities make it an ideal destination for travelers seeking a quintessential Mediterranean getaway. Whether you're looking to soak up the sun, immerse yourself in local culture, or simply enjoy the laid-back lifestyle, Benalmádena has something for everyone.
