About the area
Tice, Florida, may not be as widely recognized as some of the Sunshine State's more famous destinations, but it offers a slice of Floridian life that can be both charming and intriguing for visitors looking for an off-the-beaten-path experience. Nestled in the Fort Myers area, Tice provides a gateway to the natural beauty and cultural richness of Southwest Florida.
One of the main attractions near Tice is the Caloosahatchee River, which offers opportunities for boating, fishing, and wildlife viewing. The river is part of the Great Calusa Blueway, a 190-mile marked canoe and kayak trail that meanders through the coastal waters and inland tributaries of Lee County. Paddling along this trail, visitors can explore mangrove tunnels, observe a variety of bird species, and maybe even spot a manatee or dolphin.
For those interested in history and culture, the nearby Edison and Ford Winter Estates in Fort Myers are a must-visit. These neighboring homes of inventors Thomas Edison and Henry Ford have been turned into museums that showcase their lives and work, complete with lush botanical gardens and a historic laboratory.
Nature enthusiasts will appreciate the proximity to the Six Mile Cypress Slough Preserve, a 3,500-acre wetland ecosystem that features a boardwalk trail allowing visitors to explore without disturbing the habitat. It's a fantastic spot for photography, bird watching, and experiencing the tranquility of Florida's wetlands.
Shoppers and foodies can venture into downtown Fort Myers, where the River District is alive with eclectic boutiques, art galleries, and restaurants serving up fresh local seafood and other culinary delights. The area also hosts a variety of events and festivals throughout the year, adding to its vibrant atmosphere.
For a day of family fun, the nearby Imaginarium Science Center offers interactive exhibits and a hands-on aquarium, making it an educational and entertaining destination for children and adults alike.
While Tice itself is a quieter community, its location offers the advantage of being close to the action without being in the middle of it. Visitors can enjoy a more relaxed pace while still having easy access to the attractions and amenities of the larger Fort Myers area.
In summary, Tice, Florida, is a worthwhile stop for travelers looking to explore the natural beauty, historical sites, and local charm of Southwest Florida. It's a place where you can enjoy the sunshine and warm hospitality that Florida is known for, all at your own pace.
