Nestled along a sheltered bay, it has grown into one of the island’s most popular holiday destinations, known for its marina, vibrant nightlife, and relaxed seaside atmosphere. Historically, the area was once home to a Venetian naval base, remnants of which can still be seen today, adding a unique historical dimension to the village.
One of Gouvia’s standout features is the Gouvia Marina, the largest and most modern marina in Greece. It attracts yachting enthusiasts from all over the world, providing an ideal starting point for exploring the Ionian Islands. The marina area is lined with restaurants, cafés, and bars, making it a lively hub both day and night. The village itself offers a mix of traditional tavernas, international cuisine, and a variety of shops catering to visitors, ensuring there’s something for everyone.
Gouvia Beach, though small and mostly pebbly, is a pleasant spot to relax by the water, with calm and shallow seas that are perfect for swimming and watersports. For those looking to explore further, nearby beaches such as Kontokali and Dassia offer stunning scenery and more extensive beachside amenities. Additionally, Gouvia’s central location makes it a convenient base for exploring Corfu, with easy access to historical landmarks, scenic countryside, and the island’s famous coastline.
