About the area
Tamariu, a picturesque coastal village in Spain's Costa Brava region, is a hidden gem that offers a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of larger tourist destinations. With its crystal-clear waters, sheltered cove, and a backdrop of lush greenery, Tamariu is a paradise for those seeking both relaxation and natural beauty.
The village's main beach, Playa de Tamariu, is a crescent of fine sand fringed by a promenade lined with charming restaurants and cafes. Visitors can bask in the Mediterranean sun, take a dip in the calm waters, or enjoy a variety of water sports such as kayaking, paddleboarding, and snorkeling to explore the rich marine life.
For those who prefer to stay on land, the surrounding area offers scenic walking trails that meander along the rugged coastline, providing stunning views of the sea and the chance to discover secluded coves and smaller beaches that are perfect for a quiet swim or picnic.
Tamariu has managed to retain its authentic Catalan charm, with its narrow streets and traditional whitewashed houses. The village comes alive in the evenings when locals and visitors alike stroll along the promenade, savoring fresh seafood dishes and the region's excellent wines at the waterfront eateries.
Beyond the beach, Tamariu is an excellent base for exploring the wider Costa Brava region. The medieval towns of Pals and Begur are just a short drive away, offering a glimpse into the area's rich history with their well-preserved stone buildings and ancient fortifications. The nearby coves of Aiguablava and Llafranc are also worth a visit for their beauty and tranquility.
For a cultural experience, the Salvador Dalí House-Museum in Portlligat and the Dalí Theatre-Museum in Figueres are within reach, providing insight into the life and work of the famous surrealist artist who once called this region home.
In summary, Tamariu is a destination that offers a perfect blend of seaside leisure, cultural exploration, and natural splendor. Its understated elegance and peaceful atmosphere make it an ideal spot for travelers looking to unwind and immerse themselves in the laid-back lifestyle of the Costa Brava.
