About the area
Costa Blanca, a picturesque stretch along the southeastern coast of Spain, is a destination that beckons with its sun-drenched beaches, vibrant towns, and diverse attractions. The region, whose name translates to 'White Coast', is renowned for its miles of sandy shores and the Mediterranean's azure waters, making it a paradise for beach lovers and water sports enthusiasts alike.
The city of Alicante serves as a gateway to Costa Blanca, offering a blend of cultural experiences and leisure activities. The Castle of Santa Bárbara, perched atop Mount Benacantil, provides panoramic views of the city and coastline. Below, the Explanada de España, a palm-lined promenade, is perfect for a leisurely stroll, while the city's marina invites you to indulge in waterfront dining or embark on a sailing adventure.
Further north, the town of Benidorm is a hub of entertainment and nightlife, with a skyline that has earned it the nickname 'Manhattan of Spain'. It boasts some of the region's most popular beaches, such as Levante and Poniente, as well as theme parks like Terra Mítica and Aqualandia, which are sure to delight families and thrill-seekers.
For a more tranquil experience, the charming town of Altea offers a labyrinth of cobbled streets, whitewashed houses, and an impressive church with a picturesque blue dome. The town's hilltop vantage point offers stunning views of the coast, and its artisan shops and galleries reflect a thriving arts scene.
Costa Blanca is also a region of natural wonders. The Peñón de Ifach in Calpe is a massive limestone outcrop that juts into the sea and is a protected natural park, ideal for hiking and bird watching. The Canelobre Caves in Busot are another natural marvel, featuring impressive stalactites and stalagmites within a cavernous space that occasionally hosts concerts due to its excellent acoustics.
Gastronomy is another highlight of Costa Blanca, with a cuisine that reflects the Mediterranean's bounty. Paella, fresh seafood, and tapas are staples, and the region's vineyards produce excellent wines that perfectly complement the local fare.
Festivals add to the region's allure, with the Bonfires of Saint John in Alicante and the Moors and Christians festival in various towns providing a glimpse into local traditions and history.
In essence, Costa Blanca is a destination that offers something for everyone, from sun-soaked relaxation and family fun to cultural exploration and natural beauty. Its warm climate, friendly locals, and rich experiences make it a compelling choice for travelers seeking the quintessential Spanish coastal holiday.
