What We Love
We had fun designing our house. We wanted to take advantage of the wonderful vista. We also wanted to keep the beautiful trees on the property. In fact, we planted 100 more trees and put in bird boxes and baths, and a lovely granite basin fountain in the front yard. Every aspect of the design took into account ecological values - from the extra insulation through to the use of natural products, fibres, and oils. We have a brass theme throughout and have finished it off with our favourite artworks on the walls.
The living room/kitchen area is floored with Tas Oak; we have a large Persian carpet in the living area, with two sofas, a TV, and a velvet chair. The kitchen counter is Brazilian granite - looks like a work of art, and above the dining table is a unique crystal lamp. This area opens out to a very large, covered verandah with glass balustrades; the views are constantly changing, and there’s always a fresh breeze. We are kid-friendly, so you are welcome to bring your children (at no extra cost if less than 2 years old); there are two beds for children in the third bedroom. We have a generous pantry; you are welcome to use things you find in there - oil, vinegar, condiments, herbs, etc.
We have an attitude of generosity to guests. Although we won’t be there, we want you to feel comfortable and welcome, and so we don’t skimp on anything. We have a lovely HiFi system you can connect to with your phone or computer in order to stream your music.
You can expect a house that is 5-star clean. Many Property Manager state sparkling clean, but in our experience, that is often merely a box people tick. In contrast, we are meticulous about providing you with a really clean house. We wash everything between guests - pillow and mattress protectors, quilt covers; we clean under furniture we do everything to give you a truly sparkling clean space. You can see this reflected in the cleaning fee; actually, we pay more in cleaning than we charge you - we don’t pass on the full amount. We are committed to providing a beautiful, comfortable, and fresh house for you.
The living room is open plan, with the dining table adjacent. The kitchen is fully functional, with an oven, fridge, stove, espresso pot, toaster, and plenty of quality cookware. The water is filtered through a high-quality filter and can be either room temperature or instant hot. You will have a very comfortable king bed in a room that is clean and fresh. There is a storage closet with hangers, and an iron is available. All the beds are quality crafted using Tasmanian oak and made locally. The mattresses are also made in Tasmania and furbished with natural cotton. Sleeping on them is a dream. The bathrooms have toilets complete with modern Japanese seats - heated so very comfy, there is a shower and separate large bathtub. We provide all necessary toiletries and towels. There is parking in the driveway. We have a washing machine, dryer, and both a covered and an outdoor clothesline. We use organic and ecological cleaning products and like to do our bit for the ecosystem. We separate out the recycling, compost, and rubbish.
We have panel heaters in the bedrooms and bathrooms, and a lovely wood pellet heater in the living room, which keeps the house toasty in winter. It only requires refilling from a bag of pellets; it starts at the push of a button. The house is very well ventilated, but just in case there’s a hot spell, we have fans in the bedrooms. We have several large Vege Garden beds; you are welcome to pick fresh vegetables and herbs from them. We also have an herb garden next to the house which you are welcome to pick from. Wallabies love our property and come to visit the yard every night and morning, so you will see them hopping around. Our priority is that guests enjoy the space, relax and have a homey’ experience in our place.
The Neighborhood
- You can walk from our house along a little trail to the waterfront (around 15 minutes), or it’s less than 3 minutes there by car. Once there you can walk or cycle along the foreshore for a total of 30km, passing by the Tasman Bridge and a number of beaches.
- You can also walk in the other direction along the waterfront, which takes you through a reserve.
- Additionally, on the hill behind our house is a large bush reserve, along which there are also walking trails.
- The nearest shopping centre is 5 minutes’ drive away.
- Geilston Bay is on the Eastern Shore of Hobart, so you cross the bridge to get to the CBD. It’s 10 minutes by car to the city centre. We are only 20 minutes from the airport, and on the way to destinations such as the Tasman Peninsula. The suburb is very quiet, well established, and surrounded by bush.

About the area
Hobart, the picturesque capital of Tasmania, is a city that offers a delightful blend of heritage, scenery, and culture. Nestled between the estuary of the Derwent River and the foothills of Mount Wellington, Hobart is a city where the wilderness is always within reach, and the water's edge provides a stunning backdrop to an eclectic urban life.
The city's rich history is palpable in the well-preserved Georgian and Victorian architecture, particularly in the Salamanca Place precinct with its sandstone warehouses that now house galleries, cafes, and boutiques. On Saturdays, Salamanca Market comes alive with vendors selling local crafts, fresh produce, and gourmet food, making it a must-visit for a taste of Tasmanian culture.
Mount Wellington, or Kunanyi as it is known in the Aboriginal language, looms over the city, offering breathtaking views and a range of outdoor activities. Adventurous travelers can hike or mountain bike on its many trails, or simply drive to the summit for panoramic vistas of Hobart and beyond.
The city's maritime heritage is celebrated at the waterfront, where visitors can explore the maritime museum or take a cruise along the river. The harbor area is also home to some of Hobart's finest dining, with an emphasis on fresh seafood and local produce.
Art lovers will find their haven at the Museum of Old and New Art (MONA), a world-class institution that has put Hobart on the global art map. MONA's provocative and often controversial exhibits are housed in an underground space that is an architectural marvel in itself.
For those interested in Australia's colonial history, a visit to the nearby Port Arthur Historic Site is essential. This former penal colony tells a poignant story of the country's past and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Hobart's natural surroundings also offer unique experiences, such as the chance to see the Southern Lights, or Aurora Australis, which occasionally light up the night sky with mesmerizing colors. The city's proximity to wilderness areas like the Tasman Peninsula and Bruny Island provides opportunities for wildlife encounters, including the famous Tasmanian devil.
In essence, Hobart is a city that offers a harmonious balance between the natural and the man-made, the historic and the contemporary. It's a place where every traveler can find something to love, whether it's the fresh air of the mountains, the buzz of the market, or the allure of cutting-edge art and culture.
