Margo’s Cottage is a stunning Victorian holiday home located in the heart of Orford. It has been carefully renovated to an extremely high standard whilst retaining many original period features throughout. Fantastic in both the summer and winter months, Margo’s Cottage is perfect for the family holiday or perhaps two couples looking for a relaxing getaway.
Why Margo’s Cottage? Well, Margo was an artist and potter and her tiles are still in the Coach House shower room (the neighbouring property) and her legacy of memories given to other people by her personality should be recognised! Whilst the house was being renovated the owners found their names time and again whether in writing behind cupboards or old wallpaper they documented their presence there themselves, or in the stories people told us of their lives here in this cottage.
GROUND FLOOR
Kitchen - You enter into the fully stocked kitchen with Smeg appliances and a dishwasher. The property benefits from a large double oven which is perfect for the larger gatherings
Shower Room / Loo / Utility area - Downstairs shower room and loo with a separate area for the washing machine and tumble dryer
Dining Room - A gorgeous and spacious dining room with a large south facing window. Our favourite touch is the wood burner!
Sitting Room - Another spacious room with extremely comfortable furniture. A lovely open fire and views overlooking the church
Study - just off the sitting room you will find a little "study" alcove with a desk area
FIRST FLOOR\
Steep carpeted stairs with a rope rail rise and turn to the first floor (not suitable for people with any mobility challenges!)
Master Bedroom - Lovely king size bed and en-suite bathroom
Second Bedroom - Can be made as either a king bed or a twin, this room is adjacent to the family bathroom
Family bathroom - Family bathroom with Bath and loo
TOP FLOOR
Twin room - This lovely room at the top of the house has two single beds (probably more suited to the kids due to the very steep stairs and low beds in the eaves!). You can also view the river from the window up here and please remember that their is a blackout blind on the window with a little tag to pull it down (a couple of guests hadn’t realised it was there - hence the mention!).
OUTSIDE
Fantastically located, just off the market square with outdoor seating in the courtyard area. There’s no allocated parking for the cottage but street parking in the Market Square and car parks at the Castle and Quay.

About the area
Aldeburgh, located on the unspoiled East Suffolk coast of England, is a charming seaside town that offers a tranquil escape with its pebble beaches, rich cultural heritage, and picturesque landscapes. Known for its connection to composer Benjamin Britten, Aldeburgh is a haven for music lovers, hosting the annual Aldeburgh Festival, which celebrates classical music with performances in various venues, including the famous Snape Maltings Concert Hall.
The town's main street is lined with independent shops, galleries, and eateries, offering visitors a taste of local life and the opportunity to find unique souvenirs. Aldeburgh's culinary scene is particularly renowned for its fresh seafood, with the Aldeburgh Fish and Chip Shop claiming to be one of the best in the UK.
For those interested in history, the Moot Hall Museum, housed in a remarkable timber-framed building, provides insights into Aldeburgh's past as a Tudor port and its evolution over the centuries. The nearby Aldeburgh Martello Tower, one of several defensive forts built along the British coast during the Napoleonic Wars, is another historical landmark worth visiting.
Nature enthusiasts will appreciate the close proximity to the RSPB Minsmere, a nature reserve with diverse habitats that attract a wide variety of bird species, making it a prime spot for birdwatching. The Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty also offers stunning landscapes for walking, cycling, and photography.
Aldeburgh's beach is a focal point for relaxation and contemplation, with the iconic Scallop sculpture by Maggi Hambling standing as a tribute to Benjamin Britten and a symbol of the town's artistic spirit. The beachfront promenade is perfect for leisurely strolls, with the soothing sounds of the waves and the refreshing sea breeze.
For a touch of drama, the Aldeburgh Cinema, which has been screening films since 1919, provides an intimate setting to enjoy both mainstream and independent movies. The town also hosts a number of other cultural events throughout the year, including literary festivals and art exhibitions.
In essence, Aldeburgh is a destination that offers a peaceful coastal retreat with a rich cultural tapestry, set against a backdrop of natural beauty and historical intrigue. It's a place where visitors can unwind, indulge in the arts, savor fresh local cuisine, and immerse themselves in the charm of a traditional English seaside town.
