The Neighborhood
If you’re visiting the Colorado Springs area and you want to stay in a real “mountain town,” Woodland Park is an excellent choice. For well over a century, travelers have been flocking to Woodland Park for its stunning natural surroundings: swelling foothills tempting the eye upward to the highest peaks of the Rockies, plus trails, canyons, falls, parks and lakes. The town of Woodland Park has a small center, but it offers a supermarket, a Walmart Supercenter, a natural foods store, coffee shops (including Starbucks) and some casual dining for your convenience. You can be there in about 8 minutes. You’ll find more options in the towns along the way to Colorado Springs. The Colorado Springs region is rich in recreational opportunities for all ages and interests, and you’ll be surprised by how much you can access in approximately 30 minutes. Here are some popular local attractions and their drive times from your accommodations: Shining Mountain Golf Course – public course with 9 or 18 holes (2 minutes) Rocky Mountain Dinosaur Resource Center -- a museum with an on-site lab (6 minutes) Pikes Peak (a/k/a “America’s Mountain”: a must-see, standing a breathtaking 14,115 feet above sea level (18 minutes). Manitou Springs – quaint, artsy small town with shopping and both casual and fine dining (23 minutes) Old Colorado City – Colorado Springs’ National Historic District with classic architecture and a storied past, as well as a funky collection of restaurants, shops, and galleries, plus museums and walking tours (26 minutes) Red Rock Canyon Open Space: hiking trails, bike park (27 minutes) Bear Creek Regional Park East: hiking and biking trails, tennis courts, playground (29 minutes) Downtown Colorado Springs – dining, shopping, museums, art galleries, performing arts venues 32 minutes) Garden of the Gods Visitor & Nature Center: breathtaking, 300-foot-tall sandstone rock formations, hiking trails (32 minutes) Cheyenne Caňon Park - 1,600-acre park with hiking and biking trails, picturesque Helen Falls, habitat for Black Bear, Mountain Lion and Mule Deer (34 minutes) Cheyenne Mountain Zoo – wide variety of animals from around the world in a unique and picturesque mountain setting (37 minutes)
