The ground floor features a dining room, kitchen, and utility as well as a cosy living room with open fire. The garden, accessed via the boot room, has a luxury wood fired hot tub for you to enjoy during your stay. A more eco-friendly alternative to a traditional hot tub, and powered by wood from the local forest, you can relax after a day exploring the countryside and take in the tranquillity of your surroundings.
The cottage, built in the early 1800’s, was one of the original workman’s cottages for the slate quarries in Swithland. When they closed in the 1860’s it was purchased by the Ellis family (prominent Leicester industrialists) as part of the newly created Brand Estate. The Martin’s, another prominent local family, who were directors of the Mountsorrel Granite Company have owned the Estate since 1892. The Wheatsheaf Inn (just down the road from the cottage) was originally built as a pub for the quarry workers but is now a fantastic family run pub serving delicious food and drink.
Close by you have an abundance of places to visit and things to do. The village itself has 4 pubs, including The Wheatsheaf Inn, as well as a village store, boutique shops and a delicatessen. Bradgate Park, with its free roaming deer and rolling hills is the perfect location for long walks and summer picnics.
There are two golf courses within a 5 minute drive, Charnwood Forest, Leicestershire’s oldest golf course and Lingdale Golf Club. The Great Central Railway, with its full-sized steam trains, has stations in neighbouring Quorn and Rothley and hosts regular events throughout the year. The cities of Leicester, Derby and Nottingham are all within a 30 minute drive and East Midlands Airport is just 20 minutes away.
There is on street parking available just outside the property and we can welcome 1 well behaved dog to join you for your stay.
