The Neighborhood

Bearpark is a charming village nestled in County Durham that boasts a rich history and a tight-knit community. With its picturesque surroundings, Bearpark is a place that captures the essence of rural English life, while also being just a short distance from Durham city centre. One of the village's most prominent features is Bearpark Colliery, a former coal mine that played a significant role in the region's industrial past. The mine, which operated from the late 19th century until its closure in the 20th century, is a testament to the village's coal mining heritage. Today, the colliery site has been transformed into a community park, offering a peaceful oasis for residents and visitors alike. Nature enthusiasts will find much to love in Bearpark. The surrounding countryside offers beautiful walks and scenic views, making it a perfect destination for those seeking a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. The nearby River Browney adds to the village's natural charm, providing opportunities for fishing and relaxation along its banks. Named ‘One of the Best Cities in the World to Visit in 2020’ by The Independent and voted ‘The Best City in the UK’ by Condé Nast’s traveller magazine readers, the beautiful city of Durham is packed with history and charm. It has the perfect blend of mediaeval heritage and a modern, vibrant feel. The cobbled streets are peppered with restaurants, bars, pubs and shops. Take a leisurely stroll near the River Wear which continues on past Durham Cathedral and the 900-year-old Durham Castle. Durham Cathedral is an outstanding building originally constructed between 1093 and 1133. The Norman architecture is especially important as it is now the oldest surviving building with a stone vaulted ceiling of such a large scale. You can climb the Tower’s 325 steps for incredible views of the city and countryside. If you’re a fan of Harry Potter, head to the Chapter House where they filmed one of the Hogwarts classrooms.

Let’s try that again.
