A Note from the Owner: Many years ago, our next door neighbor would tell me stories about waking up in their condo at a place called Makena Surf, and before eating breakfast, she would put on her swimsuit and go swimming in the ocean. She could not imagine a better way to begin her day than to swim with the turtles that called the reef in front of Makena Surf their home. We could not resist traveling to Maui to experience beginning our day like that. It is as glorious as it was described. We discovered that wasn’t the only thing we loved about Makena Surf. It happens to be located across the street from two great golf courses—the Wailea Emerald and Gold courses. We enjoyed the pool, especially the water aerobics classes. Everyone was very welcoming, and because of Ali’i’s generosity, the classes are free. After long days wandering around the island, hiking, shopping, eating—lots of eating, going upcountry, driving the Hana highway, etc., Makena Surf was a wonderful retreat. The tropical gardens are glorious, and what could be better than sitting on the lanai watching whales breach and/or the setting sun? We fell in love with Maui and Makena Surf, so after a few more visits, we bought our condo. We chose C106 for several reasons. There are no stairs to get into the unit and only two steps inside the unit. It has an expansive, unobstructed view of the ocean, Lanai, and West Maui. We also happen to have an archeological site just beyond our lanai and lawn. It’s called a Heiau, which is an ancient sacred site. Because no one is allowed on the Heiau, our lanai and lawn area is very private, yet steps away from the beach. We invite you to come and enjoy the aloha spirit staying in our home. We hope you too will fall in love with both Maui and Makena Surf. Oh, one small bit of advice. If you come to Maui during whale season and happen to be swimming or playing in the ocean, try this: put your head under water, hold your breath, and listen—you will hear the whales singing their song.
