With a history of 300 years New Orleans is known for preserving the past as much as possible and that shows throughout this neighborhood where many of the homes have been newly renovated or are in the process of being renovated to maintain their unique "shotgun" style and look. To a visitor the bright colors used might seem odd but the variety of colors and mismatched housing styles tend to add to the charm of the neighborhood.
Unlike many cities it is very normal here to say hello and talk to people as they walk by on the sidewalk and streets! Southern hospitality is alive and strong! So, don’t be shy and you will feel like a true local when visiting.
This neighborhood is also very close to the French Quarter where “big city” common sense can prevail when it comes to safety as well. If you’re unsure or worried about anything just let me know and I am more than happy to provide even more advice!
