Picardy: Picardy is located in the northern part of France. Picardy stretches from the long sand beaches of the Somme estuary in the west to the vast forests and pastures of the Thiérache in the east and down to the chateaux of Chantilly or Pierrefonds near the Paris Area and vineyards of the border with Champagne (Champagne picarde) to the south. An important agricultural region of France, Picardy has a diverse natural environment consisting of 40 km of coastline, many rivers, marshes and ponds and lakes, forests, and pastures. It is a favorite region of France for hiking, horseback riding, hunting and fishing, bicycling, canoeing and kayaking, sailing, sand yachting and other outdoor activities.
Somme: We are located in the department of Picardy called the Somme, named after the Somme river. The Somme was the site of a series of battles during World War I, and is most noted for the prominent use of trench warfare. Particularly significant was the 1916 Battle of the Somme. As a result of this and other battles fought in the area the department is home to many military cemeteries and several major monuments commemorating the many soldiers from various countries who died on its battlefields, particularly those of England, Wales, Scotland, Ireland, Canada, Australia, South Africa and New Zealand. We are less than 30 minutes (35 km/21 miles) from Cantigny, site of the first American offensive of World War I. One of the largest Chinese cemeteries of Wwi is located within 30 minutes.

About the area
Berck, located in the Hauts-de-France region, is a charming seaside town that offers a delightful mix of natural beauty, cultural experiences, and recreational activities, making it an ideal destination for travelers seeking both relaxation and adventure.
The town's most prominent feature is its expansive sandy beach, which stretches for several kilometers along the Opal Coast. This beach is a paradise for sunbathers and swimmers during the summer months, while also being a popular spot for wind sports such as kite flying, land sailing, and kitesurfing, thanks to the steady winds that sweep across the coastline.
Berck is also renowned for its annual International Kite Festival, which takes place in April and attracts enthusiasts from around the world. The sky above the beach becomes a canvas of color as countless kites of all shapes and sizes take flight, creating a spectacle that is as whimsical as it is impressive.
For nature lovers, the nearby Bay of Authie is a haven for wildlife, particularly seals, which can often be seen basking on the banks or frolicking in the water. Birdwatchers will also find plenty to observe, with the surrounding marshlands and dunes serving as a habitat for various bird species.
The town itself exudes a quaint charm, with its traditional French market offering local produce and goods, and its streets lined with boutique shops and cozy cafes. The Musée de Berck provides a cultural touch, showcasing the works of painters who were drawn to the town's unique light and landscape.
For those interested in history, the nearby town of Montreuil-sur-Mer is encircled by well-preserved medieval ramparts and offers a glimpse into the region's past through its cobbled streets and historic buildings.
Berck's location also makes it a convenient base for exploring other attractions in the region, such as the opulent Château de Bagatelle and the scenic Somme Bay, known for its picturesque villages and natural beauty.
In essence, Berck is a destination that offers a blend of leisurely beach life, engaging outdoor activities, cultural richness, and natural wonders. It's a place where visitors can unwind by the sea, engage with local traditions, and immerse themselves in the tranquil beauty of the French northern coastline.
