THE NEIGHBORHOOD
Plaka is the old historical neighbourhood of Athens, clustered around the northern and eastern slopes of the Acropolis, and incorporating labyrinthine streets and neoclassical architecture. It is located between Syntagma and Monastiraki square. Adrianou Street (running north and south) is the largest and most central street in Plaka.
There are plenty of shops, restaurants and coffee shops in the neighborhood. Nearby is Ermou street, which is the main shopping street of Athens.
In Plaka can be found a number of major Athens sights. Museums in Plaka include the new Acropolis Museum (8 minute walk from the apartment), the new Jewish Museum of Greece (1 min walk), the Museum of Greek Folk Art (2 min walk), an annex of which is the Old Public Baths building, the Frissiras Museum, the Museum of Popular Music Instruments, the Museum of Pavlos and Alexandra Kanellopoulou and the Athens University Museum (8 min walk). Nearby is Adrianou Street which may be the oldest street in Athens still in continuous use with exactly the same layout since antiquity, that leads to the Roman Agora - Roman Forum (7 min walk) and to Thiseio. Also, Acropolis is a 15 min walk from the apartment. Other remarkable sights nearby are Herodes Atticus Theatre, the Pnyx Hill, and the picturesque neighborhood with the greek island-like houses, Anafiotika.
Aside from sightseeing, note that the apartment is also located very close to the shopping center of the city, Ermou Street and Voukourestiou Street and the neighborhood is full of nice restaurants and bars.
GETTING AROUND
Metro / Underground is the most convenient mean of transit for the location. Syntagma Station is only a 5 min walk away (400m), from where you have access to Lines 2 and 3 (the 2 Metro lines of the city).
All Public transport (Bus and Tram) is also easily accessible from the location within 5 min walk.
