The famously luminous sunlight of Tuscany bounces off the antique streets and into CASA BARBRA apartment near the main shopping street Via Fillungo. Frescoed ceilings and marble chimneypiece speak to the city’s architectural history, but modern pieces pla-ce it in the now. It’s less than a 5-minute walk to both the medieval splendor of St.Michele Square and the famous Anfiteatro which are the Lucca landmarks as well as the Guinigi Tower, Antique Market, Train Station and public car Parkings.
Luxury CASA BARBRA may feel like a centuries-old palazzo, but it boasts all the amenities of a modern home, from cable TV and Wi-Fi to air conditioning in each room and to a study room/biblioteque ideal for smart working away from office. A dishwasher makes light work of cleaning up after homemade feasts around the grand dining table, and laundry facilities make it easy to start fresh on each day of your stay.
Murano glass chandeliers hanging from wood-beamed ceilings and richly patterned area rugs on the floors give this vacation rental a sense of traditional grandeur. But there’s modern flair in the living and dining rooms, too, thanks to a sophisticated velvety patterns. And the fully equipped kitchen is all contemporary, featuring a wide selection of appliances and cooking utensils that will enhance the cooking experience like a pro.
A stay at CASA BARBRA makes it easy to explore the city. Walk 5 minutes to St. Giovanni Basilica where Puccini concerts are held every night inside the Romanesque Church, or just walk slightly over to enjoy a walk up on the Renaissance Walls, one of the most iconic sights in Lucca—if not in Italy—and admire both the swirling ornamentation and the crowds on the piazza Napoleone. The marble-faced Church of San Francesco, also 2 minutes away, is primarily a church but on the opposite side you can try the Lu.C.C.A. Center of Contemporary Art. Bring the family out in the square for a glass of local wine, or little bar bites, or relive your honeymoon over a lengthier dinner at a canal-side restaurant along Via del Fosso.

About the area
Lucca, Italy, is a captivating city that embodies the quintessential charm of Tuscany. Enclosed by well-preserved Renaissance walls that have been transformed into a pedestrian promenade, the city invites visitors to step back in time and explore its historical treasures at a leisurely pace.
The heart of Lucca is its old town, a labyrinth of cobblestone streets, picturesque piazzas, and elegant buildings. The Piazza dell'Anfiteatro, a unique elliptical square, is a highlight, built on the ruins of an ancient Roman amphitheater. Visitors can enjoy the vibrant atmosphere of the piazza, which is lined with cafes and shops, perfect for sipping a cappuccino and people-watching.
Lucca's rich history is showcased in its numerous churches, the most famous being the San Michele in Foro with its stunning façade and the Lucca Cathedral (Duomo di San Martino), which houses remarkable artworks and the revered Volto Santo di Lucca, a wooden crucifix. The city's religious heritage is further celebrated during the Luminara di Santa Croce festival, where Lucca is illuminated by thousands of candles in a breathtaking display.
For those with a taste for adventure, climbing the Guinigi Tower offers a rewarding experience. The tower is notable for the ancient oak trees growing atop its roof, providing a unique vantage point over the city and the surrounding Tuscan countryside.
Music enthusiasts will find Lucca especially endearing as it is the birthplace of the famous composer Giacomo Puccini. The Puccini Museum, located in his childhood home, is a pilgrimage site for opera lovers, and the city hosts an annual summer festival celebrating his works.
Beyond its historical and cultural offerings, Lucca is also a gateway to the Tuscan landscape, with opportunities for cycling and hiking along the Serchio River or through the nearby hills. The city's culinary scene is equally enticing, featuring traditional Tuscan cuisine, fine wines, and local specialties like Buccellato, a sweet bread that is a Lucca staple.
Lucca's blend of history, culture, and natural beauty, combined with its relaxed atmosphere and friendly locals, makes it a destination that offers a truly authentic Italian experience. Whether you're seeking to immerse yourself in history, enjoy the arts, or simply indulge in the pleasures of Italian life, Lucca is a city that will capture your heart and leave you longing to return.
